"The pace of Matthew Reilly books is truly staggering and this was a fabulous and pacy return for Shane Schofield, aka Scarecrow, along with some of his old crew, 'Mother', and some astonishing new adversaries from the least expected of places........ Terrorists have taken over an old Russian military research station in the Arctic and only Scarecrow can save the world from the havoc they inend to wreak with what they find there. OK, so some bits are less 'credible' than other thriller writers, but this is supposed to be fiction, right? So I'm more than willing to allow a good deal of 'poetic license'. It's a rollercoaster ride than will have you in despair one moment and grinning manically the next, and you'll fall in love with Bertie....."

" Matthew Reilly books are like literary crack cocaine - a guilty pleasure that you'll always enjoy - but you'll never get back the rush of your first time - which in my case was Ice Station - probably the best action novel ever. I'm glad he's come back to Scarecrow as his hero, after a long gap for the Jack West books, and this was another fast paced exciting action thriller, but the plots are all very similar in format, and therefore a bit predictable now. I loved Bertie as the new addition though and hope we get to see him again. "

" I would say that this was another typical action/thriller with Scarecrow but it had some extra special "Come on, no way" moments. The book was entertaining but just a little too unbelievable. "
