Publisher Description

This is a story about craft, about work, about magic, and most of all about the pleasure and difficulty of friendship. It begins when four young misfits with a talent for magic (and trouble!) arrive at Winding Circle Temple. Despite their differences, Sandry (the noble), Tris (the merchant girl), Daji (the trader), and Briar (the street rat) find themselves bound together in a Circle of Magic - a circle they will need when they face crushing danger in a white-knuckle climax that will have listeners glued to the edges of their seats.

"I found it weird that it was called Sandry's book but jumped around to every character. It bothered me that the transitions between characters seemed to be non-existent. I would have rather had focused on Sandry's perspective or better transitions so I wasn't so bothered by the character jumping. "

" I just re-read this series, having finally picked up books 2, 3, and 4 at a used book store. Very enjoyable -- as they've always been! "

" I read this because my daughter loves Tamora Pierce so much. I think the series will get better as I read more of it. It's okay, but not great so far. "

" Ok, so, clearly I love Tamora Pierce. This book is no exception, and even though it doesn't take place in Tortall, it was still great. I think I'm really going to enjoy these next two quartets. "

" I thought this book was on the slow side with the intro of four characters, but I did really like the ending. I have loved Tamora Pierce's other work, but this one is for a younger reading audience and I tend to lose interest in those. But I'm sure middle graders or younger would love the book. "

" This book was written pretty young, more for 12 year olds. I was bored but it would probably be good for a pre-teen. "

" Nice characters, and creative world. Felt more like a setup for the rest of the series than a book in it's own right though. I'm looking forward to seeing the characters develop and face greater challenges in the sequels. "

" 6/10. Having LOVED all of Tamora Pierce's other books, I started this series ready to love it as well. However, these just didn't work as well for me. They felt more juvenile - the characters were less interesting, the plot less complex. It wasn't bad, certainly, it just didn't click with me. "
