Tamora Pierce brings readers another Tortall adventure! Alianne is the teenage daughter of the famed Alanna, the first lady knight in Tortall. Young Aly follows in the quieter footsteps of her father, however, delighting in the art of spying. When she is captured and sold as a slave to an exiled royal family in the faraway Copper Islands, it is this skill that makes a difference in a world filled with political intrigue, murderous conspiracy, and warring gods. This is the first of two books featuring Alianne.

"Another great series from Tamora Pierce! And you don't have to have read any of her other ones to understand what is going on but it is nice because she references those other characters. I am very excited to read the next one in this series and see what happens with Aly."
— Beth (4 out of 5 stars)
" A bit longwinded but good for a once read. "
— Editt, 2/8/2014" A re-read. Excellent as always! "
— Mary, 2/5/2014" I first read this two years ago, before I'd read any of Tamora pierce's books. Even after reading all of her other series this is still my favourite. "
— Catt, 1/17/2014" I love all of Tamora Pierce's books. Her protagonists are strong, independent girls who grow into healthy women. I feel like I too can help stage a revolution whenever I read this book. "
— Suzanne, 12/12/2013" I have read this and it's sequel many times, and now that I am looking at this list I want to read them again. I think the plot is great, and I was really able to get into the story, as if I were standing right next to this awesome heroine as she ventured through life. "
— Lexi, 11/12/2013" I went back and forth about whether to give this two or three stars. On the one hand - the plot and mythology of the story is really engaging and well-developed. On the other hand - the prose of the story itself is not great. I rolled my eyes as characters that are supposed to exist in another world slipped into tired English jargon and cliches. But once I reminded myself that this is juvenile fiction and not really intended for someone who minored in English Lit and edits writing for a living, I was able to focus more on the story than the actual prose. "
— Heather, 10/31/2013" I enjoyed these books more than the Kelledry books that are before the events in this series. Aly is a very intriguing and fun character to follow. "
— Tranylle, 10/17/2013" I just coulnd't finish it. Worst book in the entire series. I love Pierce's novels so I picked this up, hoping for another great book. I was sorely dissapointed.Where the heck was Sir Myles?! The Song of the Lioness Quartet was the best. "
— Myuu, 10/10/2013" Finished!!!! loved this book but liked the other ones a bit more. "
— Hannah., 10/9/2013" This one was really good. Adventure-packed with some romance: just the way i like my books. "
— Kori, 10/4/2013" I liked these two books, they were fun. In fact, if you like Pierce but not so much the lavender-eyed heroine with magic deal (though I can't imagine why not) you might prefer this wily heroine! Definitely fun. "
— Sam, 3/29/2013" I really appreciate how Pierce has created such clearly unique female characters for each of the Tortall series. "
— Emily, 3/22/2013" Can't wait to get the next one from the library "
— Sarah, 2/25/2013" This book is still one of my favs!! "
— Priscilla, 1/15/2013" This book was on the shelf near Scott Westerfeld's books which is why I picked it up. I wasn't loving it right at first but once I got into it I really enjoyed it. And now I'm reading the sequel. There's something about mythical lands and people that just makes me happy. "
— Natalie, 9/10/2012" I enjoyed this. I liked Aly's sarcasm, I liked the crow / raka connection, I liked the magic as well as the overall universe. "
— Carolyn, 8/10/2012" This is fabulous book. I loved the involvment of the "trickster" god and the entire culture of this book. It seemed very new orleans. "
— Kiersty, 5/29/2012" I usually love Tamora Pierce but really struggled to finish this one! "
— Emily, 5/7/2012" The Trickster books came out when I was in high school, and for some reason I didn't reread them after that first time -- which makes them such a treat now! "
— Megan, 2/27/2012" One of my favorite Pierce books: great story and writing! "
— Seth, 2/15/2012" I loved this book! There was so much inside that I really can't write about it all...let's just say I am now reading the sequel and that I COMPLETELY recommend this book!!!!!!!! "
— Jules, 10/6/2011" i actually read the second one too but i want to reread them because they are really good and alanna was an awesome character-it's hard to let her go =( "
— Jenny, 9/14/2011" i really wanna marry nawat. really, really bad. "
— Emma, 6/7/2011" I ma rereading it right now. I love everything about it. I love how it hints at all of the other characters from the previous books, but it is a total different country. Aly is just awesome! "
— Kellyw, 2/3/2011" Aly is such a brave and resourceful person! "
— Emily, 11/19/2010" Tamora Pierce's world of Tortall is a gold-mine for novels - and 'Tricksters' is such a great continuation of the Allana series. "
— Walter, 10/4/2010" Ali is so cool. But I can't believe her father won't let her be a spy, which is all she wants. "
— Gwyn, 9/23/2010" i absolutly love Tamora Pierce books!!! "
— Tracey, 8/11/2010" Absolutely amazing! I absolutely love this book; no matter how many times I read it I am still hooked and excited as ever. Just marvelous. "
— Vanessa, 6/1/2010" I have the feeling that this isn't what it's titled as. . . I think i've read this as Trickster's Choice, with a sequel called Trickster's Queen. :( I thought that this was an entirely new book. . . "
— Jay, 12/18/2009" THIS BOOK IS SUCH A WORK OF PERFECTION THAT NOTHING CAN BE SAID. YOU MUST READ IT YOURSELF. "
— Dante, 3/2/2009" Fun book. Quick read. Nothing too special, but at least it's content was appropriate. "
— Valerie, 6/16/2008" I'm late to reading Tamora Pierce's books, so I'm gradually catching up on her various series. I love the world she's created and the mix of magic, immortals, and swordfighting/vaguely medieval trappings. Plus her heroines are a lot of fun! "
