" I first read this two years ago, before I'd read any of Tamora pierce's books. Even after reading all of her other series this is still my favourite. "

" I love all of Tamora Pierce's books. Her protagonists are strong, independent girls who grow into healthy women. I feel like I too can help stage a revolution whenever I read this book. "

" I have read this and it's sequel many times, and now that I am looking at this list I want to read them again. I think the plot is great, and I was really able to get into the story, as if I were standing right next to this awesome heroine as she ventured through life. "

" I went back and forth about whether to give this two or three stars. On the one hand - the plot and mythology of the story is really engaging and well-developed. On the other hand - the prose of the story itself is not great. I rolled my eyes as characters that are supposed to exist in another world slipped into tired English jargon and cliches. But once I reminded myself that this is juvenile fiction and not really intended for someone who minored in English Lit and edits writing for a living, I was able to focus more on the story than the actual prose. "

" I enjoyed these books more than the Kelledry books that are before the events in this series. Aly is a very intriguing and fun character to follow. "
