"perhaps a squeek generous at four stars but I quite enjoyed this novel. The story slowly unravels with many sidesteps back into the past. Sometimes I am bothered by too many coincidences but otherwise it's an interesting read with good characters (and even three returning ones from the authors prvious novel). There's some creepy stuff in here, a few dark things hinted at in the novel and I'm not talking witchcraft."

" This story illustrates how easy it is to accuse someone of wrong-doing and have it ruin their life. It truly makes you wonder how many people have been falsely accused and who are in prison or were sent to death when they were not guilty. Again Jodi Picoult tackles a great issue. Would highly recommend this book. "

" It didn't take long to realize that this story is largely based on The Crucible and that's fine. She did an ok job with it and the story started out really good. Then it got really, really slow with flashbacks and side stories that seemed totally irrelevant, and a court case that only rehashes what we already knew. I was really frustrated at the ending for overtly hinting at something I had thought for much of the book but that was never otherwise hinted at. The audiobook was enjoyable because the reader is excellent, but I would recommend The Tenth Circle or My Sister's Keeper over this book any day. "
