An off-site corporate event gone disastrously wrong. The largest ransom in history. The price-tag: dead or alive. Now, in Joseph Finder's explosive thriller Power Play, it's up to Jake Landry-a modest, steady guy with a dark, hidden past-to save them all... It was the perfect retreat for a troubled company. No cell phones. No BlackBerrys. No cars. Just a deluxe lodge surrounded by thousands of miles of wilderness and a desolate seacoast. Jake Landry is a junior executive at the Hammond Aerospace Corporation, a steady, modest, and taciturn guy with a gift for keeping his head down—and a turbulent past he prays he's put behind him. Ordered to fill in for his boss at the annual offsite, he's out of his element. He's uncomfortable with the lavish accommodations and especially with the arrogant, swaggering men who run the company and the only person he knows there is the new special assistant to the CEO—who happens to be Jake's ex. Then a band of hunters, apparently lost in the woods, crash the opening-night festivities. Soon the execs of a billion-dollar company, cut off from the rest of the world, find themselves at the mercy of a group of men with guns...and a cunning plan to take Hammond Aerospace for all it's worth. But the hostage takers aren't who they appear to be and neither is Jake Landry. The high flyers hadn't wanted Jake to come along. Now he's the only one who can save them.

"I enjoyed this book greatly. It was my first Joseph Finder title but certainly will not be my last. It was a quick easy read and had a great "it could happen" story line. Characters that we can all relate to in a work environment and villains you love to hate. All in all a great read."

A masterful blend of contemporary thriller and a character driven plot.
— Houston Chronicle on Killer InstinctGuaranteed to be a winning listen.
— AudioFile on Killer Instinct“A superb story that dazzles with its heart-pounding suspense.
— The Boston Globe on Killer InstinctWickedly fun!
— Entertainment Weekly on Killer InstinctA first-rate thrill ride, punctuated with the kind of character development most authors shun…
— The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Killer Instinct" You get exactly what you expect from this book. Executives from a large company are taken hostage during a wilderness offsite meeting. Luckily, one of the attendees is superman jr and saves the day. Fantastic. It was a fun read, but had zero surprises. Still, a good action book if that's what you're looking for. And I did like the main character, which isn't always a given lately... "
— Gary, 2/15/2014" While I was reading this book it felt more like I was watching a mediocre action flick rich with testosterone, tough guys with guns. This was my first Joseph Finder, had never heard of him before reading this. Jake Landry, junior executive, attends a retreat with the top officers of a troubled company, Hammond Aerospace Corporation, as a last minute replacement. The story focuses on Jake's "turbulent past," which was not really necessary. The beginning was dull and dragged on for too long. It wasn't until Part Two that the plot began to move, about 150 pages into the novel. From there on it was very fast-paced and action-packed. I would only recommend this book if you like books with a lot of action, but it is nothing I would rave about. "
— Amy, 2/8/2014" I loved every word of this book. I loved the hero and this also kept me on edge. "
— Chip, 2/8/2014" I was enjoying the development of the characters until the dinner & I realized the intruders were real. As much as I like this author, I don't I don't like this type of suspense. I jumped to the end, because I had to know how it turned out. It was a great ending... "
— Lynn, 2/6/2014" Finder owns the franchise on the corporate thriller. In this one things get ugly on an aerospace company's executive retreat at a remote Canadian fishing lodge. Good, solid, entertaining stuff. "
— Steve, 2/2/2014" Sometimes it does stretch credibility, but it's a fantastic story about a group of terrorists who take control of a business retreat. Thankfully, a rather plucky young employee is there to save the day. "
— D, 1/29/2014" Entertaining, quick, action, suspense, but not so much that I couldn't read it before bed! "
— Elizabeth, 1/27/2014" Fast paced, good plot. Really enjoyed it. "
— Mark, 1/26/2014" This book pulls you in right away. Very suspenseful but there is some rough language. I'm just saying..... "
— Michele, 1/23/2014" I enjoy suspense thrillers, but this one was a little too violent and graphic for my taste. It had an interesting plot, but it sometimes dragged and got hung up on technical stuff like the engineering description of an airplane. Would be a good read if you don't mind the gory descriptions. "
— Sarah, 1/20/2014" Good action but had trouble with the believability factor "
— Mary, 1/18/2014" Crap and drivel. "
— Jessica, 1/13/2014" What an exciting book! I will be reading this author again. "
— Janice, 1/1/2014" Excellent unfolding. Intense at some points. Page turning, breath holding, heart racing thrills. A must read. "
— Michele, 12/23/2013" Another excellent corporate thriller for Finder. His stories move at break-neck pace and he does his homework. Anyone who enjoys a good page turner will want to read this one. "
— Susan, 12/14/2013" It started good, then lost ground and became predictable. "
— Fryingpan, 8/9/2013" I wish my work retreats were this exciting "
— Jaclyn, 5/18/2013" Low man on totom pole ends up at high level company meeting for airplane designer and maker corporation. HIs early life in a reform school setting makes him the most important person at the meetings. "
— Nancy, 3/8/2013" Can't remember. (This review was written in July 2011, a few years after reading the book.) "
— Peter, 1/13/2012" pretty good but not totally engrossing "
— Doris, 11/3/2011" Hummmmmmmmmmmmm??? I Will try other Finder novels. "
— April, 7/27/2011" A hostage story that takes place at a remote fishing cabin in British Columbia. Excellent reader which helps to ratchet up the suspense. Listened to novel on my iPod. "

— Tricia, 6/5/2011" Meh, not the greatest read but not the worst either<br/> "
— Beanse, 5/13/2011" Not bad, slightly above average "guy saves the girl", but this time in the corporate world setting. "
— Michael, 4/11/2011" Suspense bem gostoso de ler, este livro! Perfeito prum dia de viagens -- não tem jeito melhor de passar o tempo gasto em aviões e aeroportos :-) Tou ficando fã do Joseph Finder. "
— adri, 4/1/2011" Fast paced, but never quite seemed realistic. Not Finder's best, but still a fun read. "

— Chrismpadgett, 2/14/2011" My second book by Joseph Finder. Real page turners. Action novels in a corporate setting. "
— Dad, 2/8/2011" This book was a real nail biter almost from the start to the finish. The main character just keeps growing with the story and his relationship with the "female lead" makes the story that much more interesting. If you enjoy a suspense novel, don't miss this one. "
— Donna, 2/7/2011" This is the one where they go on a corporate retreat and get taken hostage by some wild and crazy guys. Good action stuff. "
— Barbara, 12/23/2010" Good audio version. 3.5 stars if that's allowed. "
— Rjames1999, 12/17/2010" pretty good but not totally engrossing "
— Doris, 12/15/2010" Fast paced, good plot. Really enjoyed it. "
