Joseph Finder's New York Times bestseller Paranoia was hailed by critics as "jet-propelled," the "Page Turner of the Year," and "the archetype of the thriller in its contemporary form." Now Finder returns with Company Man - a heart-stopping thriller about ambition, betrayal, and the price of secrets. Nick Conover, the son of a factory worker, is the CEO of a major corporation in a company town. Nick, once the most admired man in Fenwick, Michigan, is now, having presided over massive layoffs, the most despised. A single parent since the recent death of his wife, he's struggling to insulate his ten-year-old daughter and angry sixteen-year-old son from the town's hostility. When his family is threatened by a nameless stalker, events spin quickly out of control and Nick is faced with a dead body and damning circumstances. To protect his family, he must cover up the homicide with the help of his old friend and corporate security director. Now Audrey Rhimes, a police investigator with an agenda of her own, is determined to connect Nick to the homicide. In the meantime, Nick begins to unravel a web of intrigue within his own corporation, involving his closest colleagues, that threatens to gut the company and bring him down with it. With everything he spent his life working for hanging in the balance, Nick Conover discovers that life at the top is just one small step away from a long plunge to the bottom.

"A very enjoyable novel. I love the fact that the main character and hero of the novel is the CEO of a major company. Some suspense and thrills... I was frequently wondering as I was reading... what would happen to the major characters. Some of the characters can be seen as clearly bad guys, others... well they are harder to distinguish as good or bad, until it's too late?"

“There's a new John Grisham in town!
— People magazine (Critic's Choice) on ParanoiaThis thriller is engaging from the opening lines and doesn't let up until the surprising end. Scott Brick narrates flawlessly, using one voice that manages not only to portray Adam's satiric sense of humor but also to capture each of the many other characters' personalities...Brick maintains tension and builds nonstop suspense.
— AudioFile on ParanoiaJet-propelled...weaves a tangled and ingeniously enveloping web...[with] a killer twist for the end.
— The New York Times on ParanoiaA built-for-speed thrill ride...
— Wall Street Journal on Paranoia" I really enjoy Joseph Finder. He writes books that are full of suspense and intrigue, but all in a corporate setting. Generally, his protagonists are good guys caught in difficult situations only partly of their own making. He obviously does lots of research to try to get all the details right, and I enjoy the details the way he strings them together. Good read. "
— Peggy, 2/16/2014" I actually had to read this for a literature class my sophomore year of college and found it surprisingly good. The book is a good 500+ pages long and somehow it's one of the few books of that length that I've read in a weekend. "
— John, 2/7/2014" Meh. IT was a little long in the tooth for my taste. I liked the lead character, Nick, but little else. I felt like this book was just too long winded, too much info and side plots about the sub-characters. Hope the other Finder books are not this overly written. "
— Beanse, 2/5/2014" It has been a couple of years since I read it. This and Power Play were very interesting although I remember thinking at several points in the story that the main character was being awfully short-sighted in avoiding the police. "
— Lloyd, 2/4/2014" A thriller set in Michigan. The protagonist is Nick Conover, the CEO of Stratton Inc., an office furniture maker, competitor of Steelcase. His house is being broken into by a lunatic stalker who scrawls strange messages on his walls. His company, owned by a shady holding company is undergoing hard times, with outsourcing to China. Most of his town hates him because he has had to lay off half the workforce. Finally one night he confronts the stalker and kills him. In a panic he gets his corporate director of security to dump the body. It is later found in a dumpster and a persistent police detective starts following the trail of the killer. "

— Sheena, 6/23/2013" Good book - I loved the ending and I loved the characters. It wasn't my favorite Joseph Finder book... it had me stressed out the whole time I was reading it and not in a good way. I can't say much else without giving things away. "
— Jay, 4/29/2013" Good mystery that takes place in Michigan. "
— Diane, 4/19/2013" I really enjoy Finder's novels. I like that each takes place in a different industry and do not have predictable endings. You care for the characters who are complex and tread that line of right and wrong in corporate America. "
