Joseph Finder introduced Nick Heller, a "private spy" who finds out things powerful people want to keep hidden, to widespread acclaim from the critics and wild enthusiasm from the readers, in the New York Times bestselling novel Vanished. Now, in Buried Secrets, Nick Heller returns, finding himself in the middle of a life-or-death situation that's both high-profile and intensely personal. Nick has returned to his old home town of Boston to set up his own shop. There he's urgently summoned by an old family friend. Hedge fund titan Marshall Marcus desperately needs Nick's help. His teenaged daughter, Alexa, has just been kidnapped. Her abduction was clearly a sophisticated professional job, done with extraordinary precision. Alexa, whom Nick has known since she was young, is now buried alive, held prisoner in an underground crypt, a camera trained on her, her suffering streaming live over the internet. She's been left with a limited supply of food and water and, if her father doesn't meet the demands of her shadowy kidnappers, she'll die. And as Nick begins to probe, he discovers that all is not quite right with Marshall Marcus's business. He's being investigated by the FBI, he has a lot of shady investors, his fund is in danger and now he has a lot of powerful enemies who may have the motivation to go after Marcus's daughter. But to find out who's holding Alexa Marcus hostage, Nick has to find out why. Once he does, he uncovers an astonishing conspiracy that reaches far beyond anything he could have imagined. And if he's going to find Alexa in time, he will have to flush out and confront some of his deadliest opponents ever.

"Another good read from this author. The storyline of this book was somewhat of a departure from other books that I have read by this author. However, I did enjoy the book even though the main premise is kind of creepy. It was a page-turner to find out if the kidnapped girl would get rescued."

“Listeners, be advised: Once you push "PLAY" on this second Nick Heller thriller, pushing "STOP" will be extremely difficult...From the opening paragraphs, Holter Graham's cool, acerbic performance personifies the sardonic Heller, ‘private spy.' Graham's convincing delivery expands to include characters as varied as a terrified teen heiress, a pompous senator, and a gold-digging call girl.
— AudioFile MagazineHolter Graham is a prolific, professional, and extremely reliable narrator of audio books…His Nick is smart, cagey, but too impulsive. Graham has a knack from capturing each voice from Alexa's querulous teen notes to Marshall's sorrowful and manipulative pleas. Together, Finder and Graham have created a thoroughly engaging summer listen.
— Reviewing the EvidenceHolter Graham's outstanding narration enhanced the characterizations and added depth to the author's work, while making each speak (both male and female) distinct and immediately identifiable. I highly recommend listening to this one!
— Book LoonsThe novel is as tension-packed and tricky as any Finder fan might expect and Graham's pacing perfectly mirrors its increasing suspense as time and Alexa's air supply start to run out. This is one of those parked car audiobooks, the kind that keep you sitting in the driveway with the engine running just to hear what happens next.
— Mystery Scene" I listened to this on tape. It's just the kind of novel I like to listen to while I'm puttering around the house. "
— Melanie, 2/14/2014" I absolutely loved this book!! Non-stop action from start to finish.. "
— Karen, 2/11/2014" I just love a good suspense/mystery/thriller and this sounds like it has all of that. this sounds like a great book! Kidnapping and all the good stuff! Can't wait to read it! "
— Shannon, 2/4/2014" It was okay but I thought the plot was far from believable "
— Ricardo, 2/4/2014" Audio -- corporate kidnapping of a troubled youth and an investigator who finds her. "
— Irene, 2/3/2014" Guy went to Yale with us. An ok summer read "
— Catherine, 2/2/2014" Nick Heller returns for another adventure, this time attempting to find and rescue the kidnapped daughter of an old family friend. His trusty techie cohort Dorothy continues to aid his efforts, as well as a former girlfriend who works for the FBI. It's a race against time to rescue Alexa, who still suffers from issues from having been kidnapped before and is claustrophobic, and not accomplished without some physical battle. Russians, tattoos, Nick's family history all come together in a fast-moving read. "
— T, 1/29/2014" very good!! so much action that keeps you interested the whole time "
— Meghan, 1/29/2014" Kidnapping, espionage, and yet more ex-secret agent stuff. What's not to like? "
— Hilary, 1/18/2014" I give it a 3.5 out of 5. "
— Brendan, 12/27/2013" This book kept my interest and I couldn't put it down. Have read all his books. This is the 2nd w/this character. Tough subject matter as teenager is kidnapped and buried alive, but the hunt for her is the basis of the story and I really enjoyed. "
— Diane, 10/28/2013" Outstanding; Continuing character: Nick Heller; when a teen whose father is a former friend of Heller's is kidnapped and buried alive, he works to determine how to save her and what caused the kidnapping in the first place "
— Joe, 10/28/2013" It was a very good book throughout which pushed it to the 4.5 range. I marked it 5 because I'd read another book by this author. "
— Mark, 10/11/2013" Great read. This is the second in a series...I will have to read #1 now. Very much like the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child. Recommended for everyone who loves Reacher! Mary, I'm talkin' to you! "
— Laura, 8/25/2013" Finder works the world of finance into a fast paced thriller. Alexa Marcus, the daughter of a hedge-fund billionaire, is kidnapped by a ruthless killer. This book has elements of pure horror amid international intrique and technological intelligence "
— Mary, 6/12/2013" I listened to this because Audible had it as a special, otherwise I probably never would have picked a spy/FBI/KGB type of book. But, I did enjoy it, however. Not very educational, not very deep, but pretty entertaining. "
— Janelle, 9/13/2012" Actualy read this last year but hadn't remembered until I started reading again.. will continue to follow this series "
— Colleen, 8/9/2012" I liked this story much better than his first book "Vanished," the story kept me interested and it was suspenseful and exciting. "Vanished" felt too long and drawn out and "Buried Secrets" felt like it was the right length. I prefer to have more twists in my suspense books, but this was a good read. "
— Angie, 11/29/2011" While it is true that Nick Heller is a little too stereotypically macho, he is nevertheless a believable and likeable character. This was another well-developed novel by Joseph Finder. The plot was full and complete, the characters were well-drawn, the story was memorable. "
— Joan, 10/28/2011" Nick Heller is on the trail of Alexa, the daughter of fabulously wealthy Marshall Marcus, who has been kidnapped and buried alive. Fast paced adventure thriller. "
— Norma, 9/8/2011" I like Nick Heller and his world. Hard to put down. "
— Kelly, 8/10/2011" Suspenseful, full of twists and keeps the reader guessing. But, the ending was too intense for me-just a personal feeling. Definitely well-wrought, though. "
— Darlene, 6/20/2011" More to Milton's taste than mine! "
