Publisher Description

It was one of Eve Dallas’s earliest takedowns, back in her uniform days. A monster named Isaac McQueen had been abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. Thanks to Eve, he wound up where he belonged, removed from civilized society in Rikers. But he’s not behind bars anymore.

After his escape, McQueen has two things in mind. One is to take up where he left off, preying on the young and innocent—when necessary, with the help of a female partner all too willing to be manipulated and to aid and abet his crimes. His other goal: to get revenge on the woman who stopped him all those years ago, now a high-profile lieutenant in the NYPSD and married to one of the city’s richest men.

Commanding Eve’s attention with a chilling and brazen crime, McQueen sets off the chase—forcing Eve down a road marked with blood and tears, a road that eventually leads southwest to Dallas, Texas, the home Eve fled long ago. And each new twist brings her closer to the harrowing memory of when she wasn’t a hardened detective but a vulnerable girl just like McQueen’s innocent prey. As her husband, Roarke, tries to rescue her from the nightmares that claw at her mind, and her partner, Peabody, doggedly works to support her, Eve must confront—and call upon—the darkest parts of her own soul in order to survive.

"I really enjoy series where you really get to know the characters. This was my first J.D. Robb novel although it is the most recent of a longer series. After reading this book, I couldn't wait to start at the first novel in the series to learn more! Since I live in Dallas, the title had captured my attention and I thought I'd give this a try. Now, to just have the time to read the earlier books before the next is released!"

" Lt Eve Dallas. One of her best in a loooong time. Good use of Roarke, new, recurring characters. Involves her and his childhood histories in ways intrinsic to the plot. "

" It's a solid entry into the series and there are some shocking revelations that take place. The story is heavy on Eve Dallas recreating the crime scenes through monologue and I think I would have liked more action. Still, I don't think fans were disappointed. This is more of a 3 1/2 stars for me. "

" As usual ---very good book. More about the emotional and psychological and physical abuse that Eve experienced as a young girl. Eve shows growth as a well rounded loving person and her relation ships move forward. This is my favorite series of Nora Roberts. "

" I enjoyed the story - but it did seem to be a quicker read than most Eve Dallas books. And I have to say that 'anal' is not a great abbreviation for 'analysis' when you have sentences that start with "It was the best anal we have..." "

" Interesting premise for an Eve Dallas murder mystery. In the future there's a murder mystery that actually goes back to the past for part of the solution. The two combined stories make for very interesting reading. "

" While I don't really read much Nora Roberts, the beginning half of this let me get that guilty pleasure out of the way without having to read a whole novel. The JD Robb end of it let it finish up in a slightly more gritty way. Not bad. "

" I liked this book. I thought it was a great way for Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb to come together. I thoght that the Nora Roberts part (part 1- present time) was rushed. The J.D. Robb portion (part 2-future) was well written and flowed like part of the series. "
