In this captivating novel, Mary Balogh, the premier writer of Regency romance, invites you into a world of scandal and seduction, of glittering high society and intrigue, as an arrogant duke does the unthinkable — he falls in love with his mistress. She raced onto the green, desperate to stop a duel. In the mêlée, Jocelyn Dudley, Duke of Tresham, was shot. To his astonishment, Tresham found himself hiring the servant as his nurse. Jane Ingleby was far too bold for her own good. Her blue eyes were the sort a man could drown in — were it not for her impudence. She questioned his every move, breached his secrets, touched his soul. When he offered to set her up in his London town house, love was the last thing on his mind. Jane tried to pretend it was strictly business, an arrangement she was forced to accept in order to conceal a dangerous secret. Surely there was nothing more perilous than being the lover of such a man. Yet as she got past his devilish façade and saw the noble heart within, she knew the greatest jeopardy of all, a passion that drove her to risk everything on one perfect month with the improper gentleman who thought love was for fools.

"OH MY GOD!!! I LOVED this book & I completely fell in love with Jocelyn (minus his name LoL). In my opinion, he is a PERFECT example of alpha male. He is arrogant, brooding, "bored", brawny, & likes to fight. That's just his crunchy candy coating though! On the inside he is capable of opening up, honesty, extreme bouts of sensitivity, has a knack for art, is not opposed to communication, & the things that he says to express his love for Jane make my knees weak. Jane is also, in my opinion, the PERFECT heroine. She has a sharp tongue, bravado, feisty, willing to stand up for herself, & able to get oh so sexy Jocelyn to open up by using her patience & listening skills. This book was fabulous. Outside of Jane Austen & JK Rowling I am not prone to giving a book 5 stars. This one definitely has it! Oh Jocelyn ::swoons::"

" Would have been a really great book if not for the weak ending and the young duke's strange obsession with his quizzing glass. Props, though, to Balogh for setting up enough material to sustain a book of this length. "
— Acfilmer, 1/21/2014" Pet peeve- hero not attractive "
— LuvGirl, 1/17/2014" i really really liked the story and even Jane and Treshman are sooo cool characters ! it just had some erotic moments .. and i think it was so erotic that i would not recommend it for young people ! "

— Erin, 12/8/2013" I don't know how it happens, Mary Balogh makes the craziness in this mess of a plot work. I am actually looking forward to the second in this series. "
— Denise, 12/4/2013" Mary Balogh does a superb job of crafting a love story that truly delves into the motivations of the characters derived from their past history. Who can resist falling in love with Jocelyn & Jane's story? "
— Judy, 7/16/2013" title tells you the basics of the plot. It was a refreshing read "
— Windy, 1/27/2013" characters were good but plot is weak. "
— Nanette, 7/14/2012" Fun with a feisty heroine "
— Minna, 7/8/2012" Loved the premise. Book moved along nicely, but dragged close to the end. Were you all surprised at the ending? Kind of strange...but nice. "
— Danette, 6/26/2012" I enjoyed this one more than I did 'No Man's Mistress' because I found the main characters more compelling. Am looking forward to the next book in the series. "
— Hortencia, 5/14/2012" I have not listened to two versions of this - both unabridged. I enjoyed the second much more than the first. I'll review later at Speaking of Audiobooks. "

— Michelle, 11/15/2010" I might edit this down a bit anon -- can't give all my Balogh re-reads 5 stars can I but I do so love this book. One quibble: I wanted a more romantic ending and as much as I enjoyed her epilogue, that's not what I was looking for. I wanted the convo AFTER she told him she was with child. "
— Janet, 7/30/2010" Wonderful story. I found the first half pretty intriguing and the second half a bit obvious, but nevertheless a fun book and I am excited to read the next "mistress" book from Mary! "
