Minneapolis detectives Leo Magozzi and Gino Rolseth are bored - ever since they solved the Monkeewrench case, the Twin Cities have been in a murder-free dry spell, as people no longer seem interested in killing one another. But when elderly Morey Gilbert is found dead in the plant nursery he runs with his wife, Lily, the crime drought ends - not with a trickle, but with a torrent. Who would kill Morey, a man without an enemy, a man who might as well have been a saint? His tiny, cranky little wife is no help, and may even be a suspect; his estranged son, Jack, an infamous ambulance-chasing lawyer, has his own enemies; and his son-in-law, former cop Marty Pullman, is so depressed over his wife's death a year earlier he's ready to kill himself, but not Morey. The number of victims - all elderly - grows, and the city is fearful once again. Can Grace McBride's cold case-solving software program somehow find the missing link?

" Quick, intelligent, satisfying mystery. This is the second in the series, written by a mother/daughter team. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kandice | 2/11/2014

" I loved the first book in this series. I enjoyed this second entry as well, but not quite as much. I believe this was due to the fact that Grace and her band of cohorts were mostly missing from this installment. Instead, the story focused on crimes being investigated by detective team Magozzi and Gino. And while in the first book, I never figured out the whole of the mystery, I figured it out pretty quickly in this book. Still, the characters were well-developed and the storyline was complex. I'm looking forward to the third book in the series when Grace and her band of computer hackers return in force. "

" A fun, fast mystery (but not nearly as good as the first Tracy mystery). The characters are a bit cute sometimes, but a fast-moving plot kept me reading. "

" It seemed organized like a 1940's murder mystery radio show. Lots of energy spent on trying to be clever banter between cops, which became tiresome to me. Good mystery, tho. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Sarah | 4/16/2013

" I bought this book because I really enjoyed reading Want to Play? (Monkeewrench in the US) by the mother-daughter writing team known as P.J. Tracy but I just didn't manage to get into this one. Nothing much happened in the first 100 pages and then I just lost interest. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Jessica | 1/7/2013

" Not as good as I'd hoped - I seem to recall being much fonder of Monkeewrench. The veteran cops just seem a little slow on the uptake given the numerous not-very-veiled references to the link between the homicides. Skippable, I think. "

" I thought this book wasn't bad I thought the story was quite good and it had quite a lot of twists and turns. I thought it was quite a good crime book. I do recommend this book if u like crime novels. But it's not one of the best crime novels that I have read. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Magda | 11/2/2010

" Rather a fun murder mystery, but the place-characters seemed a bit off. Also, there was way too much gratuitous cursing. And I had trouble keeping the detective characters straight. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Sandra | 8/19/2010

" Second of the series. What I like about these books is that one minute I am laughing out loud, another minute I am on the edge of my seat, and then towards the end I get teary -- perfect fiction! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jeanette | 8/17/2010

" Live Bait by P.J Tracy was a page turner. Monkeewrench gang was in it, but not major players. The detectives were the main players and they shined in this one. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kerry | 7/12/2010

    " Fun, quick read!
Good characters, I really like the detectives. Enough drama and realistic scenarios to be interesting with the surprise twist on 'who-done'it'.
    Enjoy "
