New York Times bestselling author Kyle Mills rewrites the rules for thrillers with Fade—a novel ripped from today's headlines Welcome to the new war on terror. A secret wing of Homeland Security is recruiting agents to work undercover in the Middle East, and the director wants his second-in-command, Matt Egan, to bring aboard an old friend, Salam Al Fayed—better known as Fade. He's perfect: An ex-Navy Seal and the son of immigrants, he speaks flawless Arabic. Trouble is, he's "retired"; he was wounded in the line of duty, and the government refused to pay for the risky surgery that could have helped him. Now he's walking around with a bullet lodged near his spine, and he's not too fond of anyone in the government—least of all, his ex-best friend Matt Egan, whom he blames for his present condition. Against Egan's wishes, the director tries to "persuade" Fade to join the team. But Fade is prepared to fight back at any cost. The chase is on—will Matt be able to find his friend-turned-fugitive before Fade can take the ultimate revenge? Fade is a remarkable, take-no-prisoners program from an unparalleled writer at the height of his talents.

"Well written thriller about an Arab-American Seal (Navy special forces) who just wants to be left alone to make furniture. He gets drawn into a gripping (and unrealistic) plot about the Department of Homeland Security conducting covert operations. Mills has a knack for making you care about the well developed characters while keeping you on the edge of your chair with a fast moving story. A must read as a second-tier read for fun book."

“Lead character Salam Al Fayed--‘Fade'--is a first-ballot certainty for the Thriller Hall of Fame.
— Lee Child, author of The EnemyGripping and interesting to the last, Free Fall is bound to cement Mills's place near the top of the suspense genre.
— The Denver Post on Free Fall" Not that enthusiastic about this one. The characters sure didn't grab me, did not find myself caring about any of them even the main character, Fade. While I kept hoping the story would get better, it kept fading. That's right, I mean what I wrote. I felt much of the story plodded and I pushed ahead to chapters just to get the the end on my Kindle. Sorry Kyle Mills, this one didn't fly with me like The Immortalists. "
— Leslie, 2/13/2014" Good amount of action, character personalities were great, and even had some humor. You couldn't help but feel for the main character throughout the book. "
— Kyle, 1/25/2014" I wasn't able to put it down... "
— Kaltham, 1/9/2014" Outstanding! 10 of 10 stars if you like good intelligence thrillers! "
— Tim, 12/29/2013" Terrific character and a great story. "
— Peggy, 12/28/2013" Characters were engaging. Storyline could have been stronger. "
— Tim, 12/25/2013" One of the finest thrillers of the past 20 years, following solid Beamon series. It's too bad he hasn't done anything good since. But this one is just great, with rich characterizations, interesting ideas, a fast pace. "
— Zora, 11/5/2013" Fade is a guy who worked in the military and always did the right thing only to be injured and have the government turn their back on him. Years later the government comes to solicite his help and he decides to get his revenge. "
— Linda, 10/25/2013" Steve loves this author of thrillers, so I thought I'd give him a try. The story was interesting, especially the relationships, but the body count was way too high for me! Definitely a guy's book. "
— Sandy, 10/21/2013" I've started reading everything by Kyle Mills. This book is great fun with lots of action. But it still ties everything together. Good plot and characters too. "
— Steve, 10/16/2013" I loved this book or perhaps I should say I loved Fade. I really miss this character. "
