Publisher Description

The first Temperance Brennan novel in the “cleverly plotted and expertly maintained series” (The New York Times Book Review) from the #1 internationally bestselling thriller writer Kathy Reichs.

Her life is devoted to justice—even for those she never knew.

In the year since Temperance Brennan left behind a shaky marriage in North Carolina, work has often preempted her weekend plans to explore Québec. When a female corpse is discovered meticulously dismembered and stashed in trash bags, Temperance detects an alarming pattern—and she plunges into a harrowing search for a killer. But her investigation is about to place those closest to her—her best friend and her own daughter—in mortal danger…

“A genius at building suspense” (Daily News, New York), Kathy Reichs’s Temperance Brennan books are both “accomplished and chilling” (People) and “ripe with intricate settings and memorable characters” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

"I loved the story and the way the plot developed. I was not impressed with the writing style, though: overly descriptive of minor, inconsequential detail which often did not flow well. I believe this is the first book written, and it shows; I hope the other books in this series are written better, because the main character is fascinating. It should be noted that the Dr. Temperance Brennan of the TV show Bones is based on the character in the novels, but you cannot read the book expecting the TV character."

Quotes

  • “Accomplished and chilling.”

    — People
  • “Déjà Dead can lie side-by-side with the works of Patricia Cornwell…Both do a fine job of telling a good, sometimes scary tale.”

    — Washington Times
  • “What makes Déjà Dead so compelling, in addition to the authoritative descriptions of how a forensic scientist ‘reads’ the story the bones tell, is the character of Brennan—smart, persistent, gusty, ironic yet vulnerable.”

    — Toronto Star
  • “With this assured and intelligent debut, Reichs introduces herself as a prodigious new talent in the crime game…The final confrontation scene is as gripping as anything in recent suspense fiction, and it is impossible not to like the vulnerable, observant, and competent Tempe.”

    — Publishers Weekly (starred review)

" I think this is the first time I've ever said it, but not nearly as good as the adaptation. The story isn't exactly bad, it's just very dry. It's not because of all the technical jargon either, I know 95% of what's being said, it's just not very engaging. "

" Una scrittrice che ricorda la Cornwell dei primi tempi (quando ancora valeva la pena leggerla) e che racconta una storia intrigante e ben costruita. Rallentata solo sporadicamente da qualche divagazione non necessaria e da piccole stonature. Tutto sommato una buon libro. "

" My best friend wanted this series of books for her Birthday and so when I bought her copies I decided to get myself the audio version. They were great books and the narator does an excellent job. The only dissapointment I had with them is that they were Abridged versions instead of Unabridged. "
