Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. So far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing.
Back home in Brooklyn, after the demise of her insane uncle Dracula, Dory is hoping her life is about to calm down. But then she gets some visitors. A friend wants Dory's help in finding a magical Fey relic, and the gorgeous vampire, Louis-Cesare, is desperate to find his former mistress Christine.
Dory and Louis-Cesare quickly discover that the same master vampire Christine is bound to is also rumored to be in possession of the relic. But when the master vampire turns up dead, they realize that there's more at stake than a missing mistress. Someone is killing vampire Senate members, and if Dory and Louis-Cesare can't stop the murderer, they may be next.

"It was very fast paced, destructive, and almost confusing at times. But over all a great book. If Dory weren't a damphir I would totally fear for her wild thinking which gets her akmost killed most of the times. She is one tough cookie. Love her and Ceasar. They are made for each other. <3 "

— Mikaela, 3/22/2013" Ok, so now I finally understand why Mircea is not around so much in the CP novels. Man, does he have a lot on his plate. This part does a really good job of filling in some of the missing pieces. "
— Tracy, 1/15/2013" This book is definitely more sexual than the Cassie Palmer series-- probably because Dory's supposed to be an edgier, rawer heroine. "
— Diana, 9/8/2012" I really liked this book. I liked it so much more then the first book. I found this book easier to follow then the first book. Once again I found the story with the fae complex but interesting. "

— Nessa, 5/15/2011" Loved it! I was so glad I picked this series up. It has just about everything.Action packed, romance, secrets and laughable humor. I loved JC in this series and will pick up the next book when it's in sight. "
— Cher, 5/10/2011" And this book confirmed it. I prefer this book series over the Cassandra Palmer series, which is sad since this book I feel is in he back burner for the author. "
— Alma, 4/15/2011" I read this awhile ago cant remember much except enjoying it a lot. "
— Sonya, 4/13/2011" I find Claire a bit of an uninspring character and easily find myself getting a bit bored of Fey polictics. However, Dorina spends a large portion of this book running around New York with a decapitated vampire in tow. I was not expecting to laugh so much! "
— Ellie, 4/5/2011" I was expect for it to to live up to the first but I must admit she surprised me. Karen Chance surpass the first book. I was so happy to see my two favorite characters get together! "
— Deviant, 3/3/2011" I really like Dorina. This is a great series. I hope there will be more books in this series. "
— Angie, 2/25/2011" I liked this significantly better than the first. For one, the characters aren't nearly as bitter and hateful. Two, it has the kind ending that reminds me just how much of a girl I am. And third, Claire gets more play time, so it's good all the way around. "
