Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. But so far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing . . .
Dory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with a strange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he's not an easy kill.
It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab. But when Louis-Cesare rescues her, she has no memory of what happened to her.
To find out what was done to her—and who is behind it—Dory will have to face off with fallen angels, the maddest of mad scientists, and a new breed of vampires that are far worse than undead.

"Loved this one there is always the right amount of humor, romance and action in the Dorina series. Lots of suprises in this one we find out more about Dorina's relationship with her father, it looks like she has a chance meeting with his girlfriend (Cassie) although no names are mentioned but I have a feeling Cassie may be having a long overdue conversation with Mircea about a beautiful brunette who she found pictures of in his room and now found her in his room but we will see and the ending was fantastic."

“Engaging…a must read for anyone looking for an urban fantasy story that’s explosive, fast-paced with wonderful characters, and a plot that will keep you guessing until the very end.”
— Night Owl Reviews" When you are in a confused narrator's head it is very easy to get lost in the story. Chance did something unique with this one. "
— A, 2/19/2014" Non-stop action, really funny - I love Karen Chance novels!! "
— Kirsten, 2/11/2014" Couldn't put the book down. "
— Danae, 2/8/2014" I am going to have to go back and reread the book, later. I was all lost. So that is the reason for my 2 stars. I will come back and rerate it when I have reread it, cause right now it is in the WHAT THE HELL pile. "
— Rosezetta, 2/4/2014" I think that this by far the best book in the Dorina Basarab series. Dory fights with the two halves of her nature and it's great that she is finally accepted. I was so shocked that the consul gave her a senate seat but she did earn it and I can't wait to see what comes next between her and Louis-Ceasar "
— Corlyn, 1/27/2014" 4.5 stars, love this series and it made great strides to understanding Dorina. Light on the LC love interest and the technical explanations of magic and portals a little too much for the action. "
— Tamara, 1/22/2014" Always hilarious and the tie ins to Dracula and Mircea...of course I love it! :) "
— Lori, 1/15/2014" What a fun whirlwind of a read. It was wonderful to see the relationship between Mircea and Dory become closer to a father daughter one. And Louis Cesare WOW awesome is all I can say. I can't wait for the next book to see how Dory manages her powers "
— Margaret, 1/10/2014" 4.5 stelle. Il migliore della serie... "
— Amyra, 10/18/2013" For some reason it was longer than I expected, which only ment I got to read more of it! I love this series. I'm just sad that there will be such a long wait until the next book. I want to see what Chance will do with Dory's human and vampire sides blending together. "
— ShaunaLee, 9/15/2013" Love Dory. Want to know more about Dorina! "
— Dveith, 7/7/2013" I am afraid I am going to have to give this series up. This installment had everything that I don't like about her other series. Head and time hopping. It makes me very confused which is a shame because I love Dorina's character. "
— E_bookpushers, 7/6/2013" Very satisfying read - complex plot that you can't rush through! "
— Susan, 7/3/2013" Enjoyed this and hope this means Dory's relationship with her family evens out after this book. Looking forward to next Cassie Palmer book. "
— Vic, 6/27/2013" Possibly one of the most dynamic urban fantasy novels I have read this year. The story unraveled very nicely and I like the slow reveal that I feel is around the corner. "
— Nichole, 6/18/2013" Love the characters but i just wish the plots weren't so complicated and that the action slowed down so i can enjoy the characters developing! "
