"Lawyer Mary DiNunzio is that star of this novel, and her (non legal) naviete is very dangerous for her. She always looks for the best in everyone, but sometimes it's just not there. She expects that everyone has pure altruistic motives like she does, but she learns that's not true. Her work and personal lives collide in a way that Mary could neither foresee nor easily manage. Just when the reader thinks things are "settled" pretty late in the novel, Scottoline adds one *more* revelation that complicates both of Mary's lives. "
