A music therapist who thrives on helping others, Kendra Michaels cherishes the ordinary life she has achieved after stem cell surgery restored her sight. The skills she perfected during those sightless years—the ability to pick up the most subtle audio, olfactory, and tactile cues in the world around her—coupled with her laser-sharp mind have made her a uniquely potent observer and problem solver. Kendra’s uncanny way of connecting the dots is as baffling to law enforcement as it is legendary.
When former agent Adam Lynch, known as the Puppetmaster, approaches her about a possible serial murder case, she is determined to steer clear. But he’s a notorious manipulator, skilled at handling criminals and colleagues alike to get the results he wants. And now he holds a trump card: The latest possible victim is Kendra’s ex-lover, an FBI agent who vanished without enough clues to follow—unless Kendra can pick up the trail. And if she can’t, she just might close her eyes again...forever.

"I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and kept me turning pages way until the middle of the night. I really like that most of her books can stand alone so you do not have to read them in any special order.I enjoyed the characters and her plots always seem fresh and new. I will not put out any spoilers, but it is worth your time to read if you are a fan of murder, suspense and..Iris Johansen. If you have never read any of her books..try this one, you will like it."

" The book was good but not was I was looking for at the time I was reading it so I was not 100% focused on it. I must say that there were some twist and turns that I did not see coming in the plot that made it very exciting. Good book but I do like Iris's books she writes alone much better then those that she writes with others. "
— Sarah, 2/20/2014" good but not up to par with the Eve Duncan series "
— Glenna, 2/18/2014" Fast read....loved this book "
— Bonnie, 2/9/2014" An investigative thriller about paying attention to details, doing the right thing, and rising up to meet challenges. The plot is full of intrigue, reminding me of the TV series "Unforgettable." The characters are intense, independent, self-sufficient, and driven, though "master manipulator" Adam Lynch isn't very subtle and for most of the book he takes a back-seat to Kendra Michaels, who is fascinating and intelligent but very abrasive. "
— Rachelle, 2/8/2014" A fan of Iris Johansen!! :) Interesting premise. "
— Nancy, 2/1/2014" similar to another series, i think this might be the first in the series. "
— Carrie, 1/21/2014" Kendra is not an easy main character to like. She is abrasive and certain her special skills are right in finding the killer. Lynch her FBI agent recruited her and they seem to not mesh well. The story moves quickly and ending has some twists. "
— Nancy, 1/20/2014" Enjoyed Close Your Eyes - not my normal reading style, but it was good! "
— Tammy, 1/11/2014" Can't wait for the next one!! "
— Rebecca, 1/11/2014" I read the whole thing and I'm not sure why. The characters were stiff and shallow; so was the dialogue. The bad guys were all thoroughly evil, the good guys were all perfect, and the bosses were all annoying. "
— Barbara, 1/7/2014" Iris, what happened? This was not up to your other books. "
— Bridget, 1/3/2014" Iris & Roy are fantastic collaborators! Think Mentalist or Psych (hyper-observent) for similarities. "
— Danielle, 1/3/2014" They set this up where there could be more books to follow - I would read them. "
— Pandora, 11/26/2013" 3.5 stars. Better than the last ones in her Eve Duncan series. Reads easier. Interesting premise to have a heroine who was blind for the first 20 years if her life. Cheeky hero. "
— Susan, 11/4/2013" Another good fast reading mystery. "
— Cheryl, 7/13/2013" Good book, I liked the new character with her heightened senses (formerly blind). I hope this is a new series from this author because I like her books! "
— Connie, 4/13/2013" An easy read and kept me interested. "
— Lesley, 4/8/2013" Probably would give this one 4.5. I haven't really liked the other co-written books, but I raced through this one yesterday, and stayed up too late to finish it. I like the main character, Kendra, and like that she has special "powers" with no supernatural element. "
— Sherree, 3/4/2013" Very suspenseful and a thriller. Reminded me of the intensity of the show, Homeland. "
— Linda, 2/8/2013" Good book. Kendra Michaels is one woman you don't want to mess with -- I like her! "
— Bobbi, 1/22/2013" I enjoy her books and this one written with her son was excellent "
— Cathy, 1/17/2013" Not sure why but I had a hard time feeling a connection with any of the characters; didn't really get to like them or care about them. Found myself skimming some pages and forced myself to reread them. "
— Melanie, 1/2/2013" I wanted to like this book, but it was just too unbelievable. To have this music therapist who is the worlds expert on everything was just too much to handle. I generally love books by this author, but not this one. I have downloaded book 2 of the series, but just can't see reading it.... "
— Lisa, 9/25/2012" Good detective/FBI book "
— Mary, 7/26/2012" This was my first time reading this author. This certain book kept me intriqued the whole way thru. It was a page turner and it usually takes me awhile to read a whole book. I read this within a month. I'm hoping the character Kendra will appear in a sequel or series in the future. "
