"It was a good book. Pattyn is portrayed as a strong character who faces many challenges and continues to keep her head held high. I didn't like the ending though, it destroyed the entire profile of Pattyn and made her seem crazy and sadistic. Other than that it had a good plot and was a good story."

" the ending of this novel is the worst ending to a story I have ever read. that's what ruined the book for me. "
— Allison, 1/25/2014" Ellen Hopkins writes about real life; the stuff that we don't always want to face. Her books show us the possiblity of hope but they also show despair and struggle. Because so much of our literature for teens is fantasy, adventure, etc. and not brimming with connections to our real world, I do feel that sometimes reading falls short of presenting any pertinent message on real life issues. Hopkins doesn't shy away from these and she does it without worrying about having to come clean at the end with a happy conclusion. Good for her. "

— Nicole, 1/18/2014" I liked the idea of it, but the first part was hard to get through. It took me awhile but when you get to the end you are glad you read it! Loved the ending, just because it seemed like it fit...I don't know how to word it. I felt like I didn't need to know more. So that is why I like the ending. Haha :) "
