From the New York Times bestselling author of Triangles comes an exquisitely told story about a young woman torn between passionate first love and the gripping realities of war.
Meet Ashley, a graduate student at San Diego State University. She was raised in northern California reading poetry and singing backup in her best friend's band. The last thing she ever expected was to end up a military wife. But one night she meets a handsome Marine named Cole. He doesn't match the stereotype of the aggressive military man she'd always presumed to be true; he's passionate and romantic, and he even writes poetry. Their relationship evolves into a deeply felt, sexually charged love affair that goes on for five years and survives four deployments. Cole desperately wants Ashley to marry him, but when she meets another man, a college professor, with similar professional pursuits and values, she begins to see what life might be like outside the shadow of war.
Written in Ellen Hopkins's stunning poetic verse style, Collateral captures the hearts of the soldiers on the battlefield and the minds of the friends, family, and lovers they leave behind. While those at home may be far from the relentless, sand-choked skies of the Middle East and the crosshairs of a sniper rifle, they, too, sacrifice their lives and happiness for their country at war. And all must eventually ask themselves if the collateral damage it causes is worth the fight.

"A great read! This is the reason I was read this author. The story made sense - and was so much better than the last one. It picked up right where the other story left off and left out the side story of his son - which I still think is ridiculous. All that said, this was a Holly Barker book - not a Stone Barrington book. Oh, he was there; but, in such a minor role it wouldn't have mattered if he was part of this story or not. He sat in on random meetings for no particular reason; but, other than that this is all Holly. It was a great story - and one I read in one afternoon - as it was a fast-paced, taut story!"

“Bestselling author Hopkins turns her signature free verse style to modern war and its fallout for her second adult novel…A clear narrative that is uplifting and heartbreaking…featuring characters grappling with the serious issues of our time.”
— Publishers Weekly" A little more Holly and a little less Stone, but classic Woods. "
— Snudson, 2/19/2014" A little scary, I hope a real work of fiction. "
— Linda, 2/8/2014" Very interesting and moved along. "
— Linda, 1/26/2014" A typical Stuart Woods read. Not as good as his earlier books with this character. He's one of my favorite authors, but his stories seem to be all the same anymore. Kind of bums me out, but for some reason I have to read his books when they come out. Does this make any sense?!! "
— Keri, 1/22/2014" Really need to read Severe Clear first and immediately read this one. I loved the ending. Left it open for more possible books. "
— Jeanette, 1/18/2014" Hard to put down! Lots of action! I liked the character development and the continuation of the last book. "
— Pat, 1/15/2014" Good story. A continuation of the last book. Good ending! Everyone wins. This was more a holly book than a stone book. "
— Hrn1947, 1/5/2014" A very wide range of travel with interesting terror plot. "
— Joan, 12/23/2013" Same as all ways, cheap, quick, easy. "
— Scott, 12/22/2013" why do I still love this series? "
— Teresa, 12/17/2013" I think I am done with S. Wood's books. It seems a great deal of the dialogue is niceties. Hello.....hello, good morning....good morning...good evening.....good evening. Maybe it is a good filler but it is something I have noticed in the last few books. "
— Natalie, 11/24/2013" What I said about Severe Clear! "
— Ruth, 11/16/2013" It was an okay book, but I probably won't run out to get another in the series. It seemed to read more like a romance novel. "
— Bonnie, 11/6/2013" Like his other books but a good read. Quick but entertaining. "
— Brenda, 10/17/2013" Think I've read all the Stone Barrington books. "
— Joni, 10/13/2013" A pretty good story. Less formulaic then past novels in this series. "
— Lindamac, 9/1/2013" Well what can I say just another Stone Barrington book. For the most part it was pretty boring. The last few pages were the best part of the book. "
— Cheryl, 8/29/2013" Not his best, but entertaining. This book follows up from his last book which deals with International terrorism. Starts of slow and as usual finishes at a 100 miles per hour. Quick entertaining read. "
— Brett, 8/24/2013" Wonderful high voltage thriller about al Qaeda operation in London & New York. Stone Barrington amusingly plays the traditional 'woman's role' in a thriller assisting CIA operative Holly Barker in the field and in bed. very high voltage thriller most will read in a few sittings. "
— Joe, 6/28/2013" Pretty good Stone Barrington save the world book. The last 2 were better. "
— Nancy, 4/27/2013" At the end of the last Stone Barrington, three of the four perpetrators are killed; however, Jasmine Shazaz decides to seek revenge by staging attacks on MI6 and the U.S. embassy in London and then the CIA office in NY. Holly Barker, Stone, Dino and his ex-cop girlfriend have to stop her. "
— Skip, 2/6/2013" Another fun Stone Barrington novel. An al Queda operative is out for revenge after the rest of her cell are eliminated. She wreaks havoc in London and NYC where Holly Barker and Stone try to track her down. A fast paced exciting story, finished this in just a couple of days. "
— Doug, 1/24/2013" With brothers killed in the nuclear incident in LA, their sister, Jasmine, Shazaz bomber #3, goes on a rampage of revenge. "
— Connie, 1/9/2013" I enjoyed this one a lot - fast paced and read it pretty speedy. "
— Jamie, 12/5/2012" Simply outstanding! Was sorry to see it end. "
