Welcome back to Virgin River with the books that started it all …
Last Christmas Marcie Sullivan said a final goodbye to her husband, Bobby. This Christmas she wants to find the man who saved his life and gave her three more years to love him.
Fellow Marine Ian Buchanan dragged Bobby’s shattered body onto a medical transport four years ago, then disappeared once their unit arrived stateside. Since then, Marcie’s letters to Ian have gone unanswered.
Marcie tracks Ian to the tiny mountain town of Virgin River and finds a man as wounded emotionally as Bobby was physically. As Marcie pushes her way into his reclusive life, she discovers a sweet soul beneath a rough exterior.
Ian doesn’t know what to make of the determined young widow who forces him to look into his painful past and the uncertain future. But it is a season of miracles and maybe, just maybe, it’s time to banish the ghosts and open his heart.

"I liked this story except for two very explicit love scenes!!! I like my love scenes implied and off screen. The story was about the fall out of being in war and how hard it is for most of the soldiers to recover and rejoin life as it was. "

“All Carr’s Virgin River regulars are here, turning this sometimes tearful tale into a warm, fuzzy read. Strong women, honorable ex-marines, and rural dangers, the hallmarks of this life-affirming, feel-good series, are all here.”
— Booklist" Really enjoyed this book. Couldn't put it down and it brought additional joy to my Christmas season. "
— Cathy, 2/14/2014" I always love reading Robyn Carr's Virgin River books. Even if the book isn't fantastic (which this one wasn't), I enjoy going back to the town and checking in with my favorites. That being said, considering it was a Virgin River book AND it's a Christmas book, I was disappointed. Patrick and Angie were two of the strangest behaving characters ever. They came across as normal and nice and likable, despite having their respective PTSD issues. However, I don't know how two "normal" people can behave so stupidly. Why Patrick was so determined to not only be there but also MARRY his best friend's widow, I can't figure out. I can understand wanting to take care of her, but to step in and take over his dead friend's life? That's not normal. And Angie didn't like it but she AGREED with him that that's what he needed to do. What?!? She was in love and lust with him from the get go.... what kind of doormat would want to spend a month with a guy, all the while knowing that he was going to leave AND try to have a future with another woman??!? The whole premise left a lot to be desired. I didn't love either of the main characters and I never really "felt" them falling in love. Not the best in the series by any means. "
