Publisher Description

The second installment of Scott Westerfeld’s New York Times bestselling and award-winning Uglies series—a global phenomenon that started the dystopian trend.

Tally has finally become pretty. Now her looks are beyond perfect, her clothes are awesome, her boyfriend is totally hot, and she’s completely popular. It’s everything she’s ever wanted.

But beneath all the fun—the nonstop parties, the high-tech luxury, the total freedom—is a nagging sense that something’s wrong. Something important. Then a message from Tally’s ugly past arrives. Reading it, Tally remembers what’s wrong with pretty life, and the fun stops cold.

Now she has to choose between fighting to forget what she knows and fighting for her life—because the authorities don’t intend to let anyone with this information survive.

"Pretties is an amazing book. The world that Pretties is set in an absolutely wonderful world to imagine. Scott Westerfeld is amazing at creating characters, plot, and description. I never had any trouble in figuring out what exactly was happening, unlike other books. Basically, Pretties's plot is that Tally Youngblood has just become "Pretty" and she is living her new life in New Pretty Town. Then an old friend drops by and gives her a note, that she had written herself. She then realizes what exactly being "Pretty" meant. I love Scott's imagination. His writing is so bold, and he took a great risk of writing this book. I think he did an amazing job. This world of his is so intricate and he describes it so well. The only problem I have had with this book is it being a little too cheesy. Because seeing "Shay-la" and "Tally-wa" can get a little annoying. Other than that, it is wonderful. Pretties is a sterling book. It is an superb romance set in a superb world. I highly recommend this book and the series as a whole."

Quotes

  • “Riveting and compulsively readable, this action-packed sequel does not disappoint. Just as good as its predecessor, it will leave fans breathlessly waiting for the trilogy’s final volume.”

    — Booklist
  • “Westerfeld has built a masterfully complex and vivid civilization. His characters are multidimensional, especially Tally, who wrestles with what she has done in the past and what she will be forced to do in the future. Uglies and Pretties are both nearly impossible to put down.”

    — School Library Journal

" This book started out slow and boring to me, but then picked up a bit. I'll likely read book #3. I've decided I hate the term "bubbly" though. "

" I actually really enjoyed the first novel, Uglies, because I honestly believed in everything the main character was going for, and I eagerly began the second one and it was absolutely terrible. She turns into a 'pretty'. That's all I have to say. That's all I can say. Those are the only words that I can force out of my mouth when talking about this book. Other than that this book was definitely not pretty. It was, in fact, pretty ugly. "

" Good follow up to Uglies. I got tired of the pretty talk and if seemed to drag a bit at first. I was a little annoyed at the notions that God and religion are stupid... which they aren't. But, it was good in the end. "
