Cruel Intent (Abridged): A Novel of Suspense Audiobook

" Although basically a light, fun read, this novel was, nevertheless, somewhat more than just a typical thriller. There is a certain "flavor" to the lead character, Alison "Ali" Reynolds, to her family, friends and her home town of Sedona. No longer working as an investigative journalist, Ali has decided to start a blog in which she can detail some of the unhappy events in her life and, hopefully, help others who are going through similar circumstances. In their small town, where everyone seems to know one another, it is hardly a coincidence that Bryan Forester, Ali's contractor, is arrested for the murder of his wife, Morgan, by Ali's sometime boyfriend, Detective Dave Holman. Ali's belief in Bryan's innocence, however, brings her back into the investigative realm and involves her, her butler Leland Brooks, and B. Simpson, the town's computer guru, in the very dangerous plot of a madman, Dr. Peter Winter. There aren't really any twists and turns, as often typifies a psychological thriller, but the characters are nicely developed and the small-town ambiance is conveyed throughout the story. I would have liked to see more development of the various relationships, but the novel focused very specifically on the events of the who-done-it and little else. Still, an enjoyable read. "

" Well, I didn't totally finish it...I got about 100 pages into it and it was nothing but crap...the character were horribly done, the plot was predictable and there are so many side plots and random characters that have absolutely nothing to do with the main plot. I am ashamed that American literature has sunk so low. "

" A different approach in this book as you know the killer up front and feel his presence throughout the story. The anticipation of when Ali will cross paths with him creates a different kind of read compared to the other 3 J.A. Jance books I've read. Nice to mix up the formula a bit. "

" This was good, I don't think I have read this author or anything in the JA Jance series before. It would have been better if I had been able to start the series at the beginning, but still a great plot and easy to follow characters. "
