In the second thrilling adventure of the New York Times bestselling Ali Reynolds series, Ali’s soon-to-be-ex-husband turns up dead under mysterious circumstances, and Ali soon finds herself the prime suspect at the center of a terrifying web of evil.
The highway from Los Angeles to the Palm Springs desert is parched, unforgiving, and deadly. In the suffocating stillness of a car trunk, a man—his mouth and hands bound with tape—waits to learn his fate. Fortunately for him, he’ll never know. What possible enemy could be bitter enough to commit such a heinous crime? And when will the monster make another move?
Ali Reynolds is traveling that same blistering, lonesome highway, looking forward to putting her past behind her. She’d left Los Angeles for the home comforts of Sedona, Arizona. But her cheating husband is in a hurry for a divorce; his very young and very pregnant fiancée has a wedding planned for the next day. And the television network that wrongfully dismissed Ali for the sole sin of being over forty will face her in court as well. So, Ali must return to the scene of those crimes. As she passes the site of a horrifying accident, she’s thankful it’s no longer her job to report the news. Until she finds out the news is her own: the victim is Ali’s husband, and soon she’ll find herself the prime suspect at the center of a terrifying web of evil.

"I started this last night, and just finished it at 4:30pm. This is the first in the Ali Reynolds series, and I purchased them all so that I can read them in order. I enjoyed this newest J.A. Jance character so much, that I'm going to start the next one later this evening! "

" hate this new series "
— Debdanz, 2/12/2014" Pretty good, quick read. All my books need to be quick reads right now. 3 kids 6 and under doesn't leave alot of time for reading grown up books. Lots of clifford tho. "
— Marianne, 2/11/2014" This is a more exciting book than the previous story. Ali gets wrapped up into a murder investigation of her husband, and all of the signs seem to be pointing to her. "
— David, 2/6/2014" A Likeable character in a predictable plot. Enjoyable escape reading, great for traveling or summer "
— Terri, 2/4/2014" Ally Reynolds is definitely not one of my favorite protagonists, but the mysteries that she encounters are entertaining. She writes a stupid blog called cutloose.com that seems irrelevant and silly, but the story was read well and kept me, for the most part, entertained. This one took place in LA instead of Sedona, which I don't mind, but I love the Arizona setting. "
— Chris, 2/2/2014" So, once I finished Hand, I decided to try another one. This one was a little harder to get into for some reason. I didn't really like it at first, so I put it down for about a week. I'm glad I went back to it, because once the action picked up, it really started kicking. People are dying, Ali Reynolds is a suspect, and everything is not what it appears at first. I'm glad I stuck with it. "
— Macjest, 1/27/2014" Trying to prove her she had nothing to do with a crime. "
— Vicky, 1/24/2014" Good book overall, rather predictable but some good twists. "
— Tif, 1/20/2014" Just finished this one last weekend. First novel I have read of J. A. Jance. It wwas ok as I stated. Nothing too exciting. "
— Gloria, 1/2/2014" I couldn't finish the book. The protagonist was unbelievable and naive to the point I kept wondering is this an adult or a teenager? Sorry, just don't like it. "
— Patty, 12/19/2013" Ali becomes the sole heir and prime suspect after a murder occurs. "
— Amanda, 11/30/2013" i like Ali's character! Good read! "
— Kristi, 8/6/2013" Only gave this 2 stars because it just seemed so dumb! Almost all the female names in the book started with an "A" -- what's with that?? I gave it up half way through. Don't care who did it! "
— Bonnie, 7/6/2013" I've actually met JA Jance - she's a very interesting woman. "
— Courtney, 5/11/2013" I liked it. It was good with a twist at the end "
— Amy, 3/16/2013" So far, the Ali Reynolds books are disappointing compared to other Jance books. It's almost as if someone else were writing them. They seem hokey and cliched. "
— Kathleen, 12/27/2012" I love Jance and for some reason missed this chapter of the Ali Reynolds' story...in this one we have the explanation of where her wealth has come from as well as a series of mysteries surrounding the deaths of her Ex and others...as good as the others "
— Mark, 7/26/2012" Just wasn't very exciting. "
— Jenn, 3/19/2012" This was a little long. The author could have wrapped things up sooner. As I think back, the 1st in the series went on and on too. "
— Cathy, 9/23/2011" Well written book that held my interest throughout. "
— John, 9/14/2011" A little too much on the romance novel spectum for my tastes. I have read 3 of the 4 Ali Reynolds books, this is my least favorite. "
— Patrick, 9/10/2011" I like all of J A Jance, but this was somewhat lower on my list. "
— Charles, 8/14/2011" My first Ali Reynolds novel. I see bits of Jance's phraseology, but seems more separated than her other series. I liked the blog and e-mail conversation aspects. "
— April, 5/22/2011" Listening to the audio book. Liked the audio book, the story line, the blog and Ali. "
— Margaret, 5/11/2011" It was alright. It seemed to be lacking depth and I figured out "whodunit" early on in the book. It didn't really keep me guessing. "
— Terri, 5/3/2011" This was so bad, it was like a joke. How is this person a bestselling author? "
— Julie, 4/15/2011" I thought it would be too much to hope that J A Janice could introduce a third captivating character I have loved JP Beaumont, and Joanna Brady. At first I was resistant, but Ali grows on you. Great stories, and a good series that is still building. "
— JoDee, 4/6/2011" The book was a little too mellow for my taste! For me, it took awhile to get me hooked. "
— Lee, 3/25/2011" It took awhile, but I think I like Ali Reynolds...she has spunk :-)

"
— Chris, 3/3/2011" Enjoyed this book. It is fun to read stories set in areas I know!! Characters are fun too. I haven't read any other books in any of the other series yet. But, they are on my list. "
— Valerie, 2/28/2011" A very good mystery! Fast paced with a main character that I liked! "
— Julie, 2/25/2011" A good start of an ongoing series that was recommended by a friend. I'll definitely pick up the second in the series. "
— Kelly, 2/20/2011" I figured out what happened and who done it, but it took me almost the whole book. Good writing. "
— Phillis, 2/8/2011" I had read Trial by Fire early in the year and decided I needed to start at the beginning of the series. I was very pleasantly surprised. "
— Scott, 12/21/2010" I like this easy to read series! "
— Heather, 12/19/2010" This was my first book by this author, and I am pretty sure my last. The premise had a lot of potential, but it was billed as a thriller and it came off more like a character study. "
— Ian, 12/16/2010" It was a good story, but the author kind of goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with anything. I would read another book by her. "
