Publisher Description

SOON TO BE A MAJOR TELEVISION EVENT FROM NBC, STARRING RUSSELL HORNSBY, ARIELLE KEBBEL, AND MICHAEL IMPERIOLI.

“Deaver’s labyrinthine plots are astonishing”(The New York Times Book Review) in this bestselling thriller featuring a hitman who is out to kill a young girl in Harlem and in order to save her, Lincoln Rhyme has to solve a cold case that’s over 150 years old.

Unlocking a cold case with explosive implications for the future of civil rights, forensics expert Lincoln Rhyme and his protégé, Amelia Sachs, must outguess a killer who has targeted a high school girl from Harlem who is digging into the past of one of her ancestors, a former slave. What buried secrets from 140 years ago could have an assassin out for innocent blood? And what chilling message is hidden in his calling card, the hanged man of the tarot deck? Rhyme must anticipate the next strike or become history—in the New York Times bestseller that proves “there is no thriller writer today like Jeffery Deaver” (San Jose Mercury News).

"Deaver keeps his Lincoln Rhyme series running strong with plenty of good action filled pages. The main character of Rhyme also seems to have been injected with a bit more humor in this installment. And in true Deaver fashion what seems like this type of crime will lead to that and then conclude with something totally different. Also back for the running will be most of the characters from the others in the series that followers will quickly recognize. Overall this has been a very solid series of mysteries sure to delight fans of the genre."

" Lincoln Rhymes is a paraplegic CSI guy. He rarely ever leaves his home and has a police woman do his crime scene canvassing. Great books! FYI, Denzel Washington played Rhymes in the movie The Bone Collector, another Deaver novel. "

" My rating would have been much higher had the story not fallen apart about 4/5 into the book. My husband and I listened to this on vacation and were rapt. Perhaps the author was bored or his editor gave him an unrealistic deadline, but everything fell apart and the endings were very unsatisfactory. "

I felt like a crime team member who is totally baffled by the contrasting facts obtained and summarised throughout the captivating novel. Thrilling descriptions from the criminals' perspectives add a layer of texture to the storyline. "
