Can a wounded beast trust a beauty with a past to tame his most secret desires?
Reclusive Sir Alistair Munroe has hidden in his castle ever since returning from the Colonies, scarred inside and out. But when a mysterious beauty arrives at his door, the passions he's kept suppressed for years begin to awaken.
Running from past mistakes has taken legendary beauty Helen Fitzwilliam from the luxury of the ton to a crumbling Scottish castle and a job as a housekeeper. Yet Helen is determined to start a new life and won't let dust, or a beast of a man, scare her away.
Beneath Helen's beautiful façade, Alistair finds a courageous and sensual woman. A woman who doesn't back away from his surliness or his scars. But just as he begins to believe in true love, Helen's secret past threatens to tear them apart. Now both Beast and Beauty must fight for the one thing neither believed they could ever find: a happy ever after.

"I am in love with this series by Elizabeth Hoyt (Legend of the Four Soldiers). I am pretty picky with my romance authors, and when I discovered her writing, I quickly added her as one of my new favorites! This book takes you from London society to the desolate beauty of Scotland. The storyline brought tears to my eyes on several instances, and I was loving the story so much, I finished this book within two days (a fete, since I also work full time and attend school). This just shows you how good it was. On to the next book!"

“Prepare to be seduced! Hoyt’s writing is almost too good to be true.”
— Lisa Kleypas, New York Times bestselling author“Elizabeth Hoyt writes with flair, sophistication, and unstoppable passion.”
— Julianne MacLean, author of Portrait of a Lover“Hoyt works her own brand of literary magic on the classic Beauty and the Beast story in the exquisitely romantic, superbly sensual third addition to her extraordinary Georgian-set Legend of Four Soldiers series.”
— Booklist“There’s enchantment in Hoyt’s stories that makes you believe in the magic of love.”
— RT reviews" Quite adored Sir Alistair Monroe, despite the scowl and sarcasm (I think I liked him because of that)! Pleasant story with a consistently good writing, I liked it! "
— Kajol, 2/14/2014" This was a really enjoyable read, sweet without being cloying, sexy without being lewd with a completely different kind of hero. Ugly, scarred and missing an eye Sir Alistair isn't your typical hero, but despite his appearance and his gruff exterior he was completely lovable. A good book and I will be reading the rest of the series. "
— Suzanne, 1/17/2014" Sir Alistair is one of my all-time favorite heroes. I just discovered Elizabeth's books and will be reading them all. Absolutely wonderful. "
— Tina, 1/11/2014" Good. Liked the story line, a little too much purple prose for me. Loved the fairy tale that began each chapter. "
— Ruth, 12/28/2013" An excellent read, and while the romantic interactions between Alistair and Helen were pretty steamy I also enjoyed the sweet domestic moments that occurred between the grumpy Alistair and the children Jamie and Abigail. "
— Foggygirl, 12/7/2013" My favorite of the first three books in this series. This is because I am a sucker for Beauty and the Beast themed books. I am definitely looking forward to the 4th and final book due out this fall. "
— Barbara, 11/16/2013" An amusing play on Beauty and the Beast "
— Shiraz, 11/2/2013" Not your typical looking hero, loved it! "
— Lizzielvr, 10/18/2013" This series is enjoyable, but for some reason, this book just seemed to drag on and on. I mean, I loved the characters, but the story itself seemed really weak-- especially the whole incident with the Duke of Lister. I think I just expected more than what I was waiting for. "
— mELT, 10/11/2013" Colonies, Scarred lord with run away house keeper "
— Dianne, 1/9/2013" I am always a sucker for a B&B theme! I enjoyed this one and though the mystery of the Spinner Falls betrayal was definitely in the background I didn't think it took away from the series. "
— AzuresHeart, 9/2/2012" My favorite of the series. "
— Rhonda, 4/25/2012" My favorite of the "Four Soldiers" series. Sir Alistair Munroe is the perfect tortured hero redeemed by love. I really liked the fact that he is also a naturalist--very period accurate and a lovely touch by the author. "
— Erica, 5/21/2011" Loved this, the characters were so well constructed. Got lost in this book over a week-end. One of her best. "
— Marianne, 4/21/2011" Beauty and the beast- but who's the real beast? Enjoyable but supersonic read. "
— penelopewanders, 4/18/2011" #3 was an entertaining read. I think based on book #2 I had higher expectations of Helen's character. "
— Melanie, 4/12/2011" A very very good read.

Recommended !!

Rating: 4 "
— Mia, 4/10/2011" 4.5 stars. I loved it. "
— Christine, 3/23/2011" 3rd in a series of trashy romance books. I liked the series though.. Kind of like Jane Eyre with more sex. "
— Carrie, 3/14/2011" I loved it! Elizabeth Hoyt is terrific. "
— Joey, 2/27/2011" Wonderful beauty and the beast story "
— Shabby, 1/25/2011" I do love anything that vaguely resembles 'Beauty and the Beast', as this book does, so I'm very biased when I say this was a great book. I can't wait for the last one of the series and the answer to the question that's plagued every male character: Who was the traitor at Spinner's Falls? "
— Christine, 1/9/2011" I thoroughly enjoyed this book! "
— Sharla, 12/27/2010" Loved the fairytale of the Truth Teller, though couldn't make the connection with Helen and Alistair. Big 'sigh'...guess I'll HAVE to read it again. "
— Andra, 12/16/2010" Loved this book. I loved all the characters in this book and read it in one sitting. "
