Their lives were perfect . . .
Lady Hero Batten, the beautiful sister of the Duke of Wakefield, has everything a woman could want, including the perfect fiance. True, the Marquis of Mandeville is a trifle dull and has no sense of humor, but that doesn't bother Hero. Until she meets his notorious brother . . .
Until they met each other.
Griffin Remmington, Lord Reading, is far from perfect - and he likes it that way. How he spends his days is a mystery, but all of London knows he engages in the worst sorts of drunken revelry at night. Hero takes an instant dislike to him, and Griffin thinks that Hero, with her charities and faultless manners, is much too impeccable for society, let alone his brother. Yet their near-constant battle of wits soon sparks desire - desire that causes their carefully constructed worlds to come tumbling down. As Hero's wedding nears, and Griffin's enemies lay plans to end their dreams forever, can two imperfect people find perfect true love?

"Lord Griffin Remmington is an excellent example of the nuanced characters Ms. Elizabeth Hoyte creates. He is naughty, everyone knows that but he is also a very responsible family man who would do almost everything to ensure the safety and happiness of his family members. That includes his asinine older brother until he falls for the woman his brother is betrothed to. That starts a lot of internal conflicts that Griffin has to work through.Lady Hero Batten is a lady through and through, aristocratic to her fingernails. She is the daughter and sister of the powerful Duke of Wakefield and was brought up to play that role.Until she meets Lord Griffin Remmington, falls hard for him, and finds herself questioning everything. On this, she is willing to go against her big brother but Griffin’s activities are not making things easy for her.A great love story charged with drama but not getting too angsty. "

“This is a novel that laughs in the face of anyone who believes that romances can’t or don’t depict the dark side of life—while still standing up for the idea of real, long-term happiness.”
— Barnes & Noble, editorial review“Fans of historical detail will love subplots involving the campaign to halt the production of gin and the overwhelming need for decent orphanages, and the mysterious happenings in St. Giles provide excitement and suspense.”
— Publishers Weekly“Hoyt deftly lightens her realistically dark plot with touches of deliciously dry humor, and the sinfully sensual chemistry she creates between her shrewd, acid-tongued heroine and her scandalous sexy hero is pure romance.”
— Booklist (starred review)“There’s an enchantment to Hoyt’s stories that makes you believe in the magic of love.”

— -Connie Brockway, USA Today bestselling author on THE RAVEN PRINCE" No long review here since it is a book 2. I really like the way Hoyt writes, and she has a real talent to make the characters come to life. "
— Michelle,, 2/15/2014" it was so refreshing to read a story where the hero knows his own heart before the heroine does. there is a love scene in this book so powerful it made me cry, lord griffin reading is wonderful!!! "
— Amanda, 1/31/2014" 2nd series, falls for her brothed brother, making gin "
— Dianne, 12/16/2013" I cared a lot about Lady Hero and Griffin. I'm still not sure about the secondary storyline of the ghost of St. Giles. The reader is still left in the dark as was the case in the first book which I feel detracts from the story as it's more distracting than anything else. "
— Lesley, 10/24/2013" Probably it's 4 1/2 stars. i usually only do 5 stars if i want to turn around, after finishing it, and re-read it immediately. "
— Ashley, 10/20/2013" Definitely my favourite of the Maiden Lane series so far, mainly because I adore the heroine! "
— Theresa, 10/5/2013" A really wonderful romance. I didn't much care for the first of this series but this book more than made up for it. The sex scenes were scorching hot and the romance really worked. "
— Journeywoman, 7/3/2013" The best Elizabeth Hoyt novel to date!!!! "
— Cindy, 2/26/2013" This is for you Rosanne, I've kinda forgotten if it should be a 2 or 3 stars, take out the earring scene and its a 3 star. "
— Charissa, 7/27/2012" Though Hero and Thomas drove me up the wall, the story was still awesome. I'm beginning to wonder, are the fairy tales included in the book created by the author herself? So amazing.... "
— Joy, 6/8/2012" I started reading this book, but then stopped half way. It was boring and predictable. I will probably finish reading this sometime when the next book in this series is being released, but Elizabeth Hoyt has ceased being an author whose books I looked forward to since the Four Soldiers series. "
— Sana, 3/8/2012" Not as good as Wicked Intentions, the first in the series, but still an enjoyable read. I felt the ending was wrapped up a bit too nicely, but am keen to continue with the 3rd book when it comes out. "
— CaroB, 8/3/2011" Masih jauh lebih baik ceritanya daripada buku #1

Dimana Lady Hero yang sudah bertunangan dengan Thomas, Marquess, malah jatuh cinta ma adiknya Thomas... :) "
— Adinda, 5/19/2011" Best Elizabeth Hoyt book so far!!! Griffin and Hero are brilliant together. I have nothing bad to say about this book. "
— Lynleigh, 4/30/2011" The best Elizabeth Hoyt novel to date!!!!
"
— Cindy, 4/21/2011" The beginning scene ruined the rest of the story for me. I did finish it and enjoy it to some extent but I kept returning to that scene and judging one of the main characters by it. "
— April, 4/18/2011" 3.5* I really hate the names.... "
— Aly, 4/14/2011" A mild four. Definitely better than a lot of her past books I've read - it had a good mix of storylines going on and I liked it. Worth a reread and I'm excited for the next one! "
— Eve, 3/23/2011" I cared a lot about Lady Hero and Griffin. I'm still not sure about the secondary storyline of the ghost of St. Giles. The reader is still left in the dark as was the case in the first book which I feel detracts from the story as it's more distracting than anything else. "
— Lesley, 3/18/2011" WOW this is the kind of book I love! I can't wait to read the next book in the series! "
— Janet, 3/18/2011" I really enjoyed it. I like that it wasn't strained in the way the conflict was constructed and I thought the characters were very fun. Mandeville . . . well, I'm not sure I entirely bought that thread, but the reast was fun. And I want to read Silence's story. "
— Diana, 3/13/2011" Loved, loved this book by Hoyt!!!!! Great characters, witty, dangerous, romance, sensual, secrets, action, a true page turner!!!!!!!! "
