Publisher Description

Who is Jesus Christ? In THE THIRD JESUS, bestselling author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra provides an answer to this question that is both a challenge to current systems of belief and a fresh perspective on what Jesus can teach us all, regardless of our religious background. There is not one Jesus, Chopra explains, but three. First, there is the historical Jesus, the man who lived more than two thousand years ago and whose teachings are the foundation of Christian theology and thought. Next there is Jesus the Son of God, who has come to embody an institutional religion with specific dogma, a priesthood, and devout believers. And finally, there is the third Jesus, the cosmic Christ, the spiritual guide whose teaching embraces all humanity, not just the church built in his name. He speaks to the individual who wants to find God as a personal experience. When we take Jesus literally, we are faced with the impossible. How can we truly “love thy neighbor as thyself”? But when we see the exhortations of Jesus as invitations to join him on a higher spiritual plane, his words suddenly make sense. In this way Jesus can be seen for the universal teacher he truly is–someone whose teachings can embrace and be embraced by all of us.

" I read the first part and the last part of this book and skipped most of the middle. The first part explains Chopra's theory that Jesus existed and that the first Jesus was the real Jesus who lived among his apostles; the second Jesus is the one that is interpreted by the church and brought the Christian religion and the third Jesus brought God to the world (as did Buddha and other prophets). I really liked the final chapter where Chopra addresses what Jesus would do with some of the controversial issues which face us like war, conflict, abortion and homosexuality. Chopra brings a very balanced view to all of these topics. "

" Totally awesome book. This rings so true for me. I have always believed in Jesus but there were things that just didn't seem real. No doubt he was a great man who did live and tried to teach a better way. THis is the first book I will buy to put on my Sony Ebook Reader so I can re-read it all the time. "

" This was difficult for me to get through, but the last 40 pages were probably worth the time. His twist on the scriptural evidence of Jesus was interesting. Fundamentalists would call it heretical, but I enjoyed the alternate perspective. "

" I really enjoyed this boook. Chopra's views of the new testament removes the elements of Christianity that have always made me a skeptic. I would recommend this book to those who still seek spirituality in their lives, despite a loss of faith in modern religion. "

" It's always interesting to read about how non-Christians look at Christ. The different perspective almost adds some understanding that can be embraced even when you don't embrace all that the author says. "

" LOVED IT. Deepak Chopra's writing is beautiful. Also - as someone raised in a non-Christian faith, he does a great job of presenting Jesus as accessible to all. He demonstrates the common truths inherent in all the world's religions "
