Fawn Bluefield, the clever young farmer girl, and Dag Redwing Hickory, the seasoned Lakewalker soldier-sorcerer, have been married all of two hours when they depart her family’s farm for Dag’s home at Hickory Lake Camp. Having gained a hesitant acceptance from Fawn’s family for their unlikely marriage, the couple hopes to find a similar reception among Dag’s Lakewalker kin. But their arrival is met with prejudice and suspicion, setting many in the camp against them, including Dag’s own mother and brother. A faction of Hickory Lake Camp, denying the literal bond between Dag and Fawn, woven in blood in the magical way of the Lakewalkers, even goes so far as to threaten permanent exile for Dag.
Before their fate as a couple is decided, however, Dag is called away by an unexpected—and viciously magical—malice attack on a neighboring hinterland, threatening Lakewalkers and farmers both. What his patrol discovers there will not only change Dag and his new bride, but will call into question the uneasy relationship between their peoples—and may even offer a glimmer of hope for a less divided future.
Filled with heroic deeds, wondrous magic, and rich, all-too-human characters, The Sharing Knife: Legacy is at once a gripping adventure and a poignant romance from one of the most imaginative and thoughtful writers in fantasy today.

"This series is turning into a favorite. While I can say I enjoyed the first installment a bit more...this one really built up to an excellent finish. it started off a bit slow...but when it got moving it was excellent. I love the magic in these books as well, and the two main characters are very likeble."

“[A] saga of daring deeds and unlikely romance. Bujold quickly develops unforgettable characters as she crafts a world filled with unique monsters and an original approach to magic.”
— Library Journal“Bujold develops the characters and their relationship skillfully enough to please romance as well as fantasy fans.”
— Booklist" Still enjoying the series, but, other than Lakewalker daily life, I'm not sure much truly happened this book. Hope the third is a bit better. "
— Marianne, 2/11/2014" I like the book pretty well, I guess I just don't like the more explicit sex scenes in this series. "
— Jabbryan, 2/7/2014" this is a reread and how could you not. "
— Paula, 1/6/2014" This sequel of cross-generational romance in a fantasy world failed to hold my attention. "
— Sarah, 12/23/2013" Fun for the characters, but plotwise this book feels more like the buildup before something awesome than a stand-alone story. The worldbuilding is very cool, but no questions are answered. "
— M., 11/27/2013" Audio book. Better than the first with more plot development. Good narrator! "
— Sarah, 10/16/2013" Much better than Volume One. Now, finally, at the end of two volumes, we're set up for some interesting times. I look forward the next one. "
— Scott, 10/16/2013" I liked this one better than the first. Fawn's perky and hopeful youth irritated me less, and the details of malices and their connection with the Lakewalkers are interesting. The story is picking up a bit more. "
— Anneliese, 6/27/2013" Entertaining without being particularly compelling. I would prefer less romance and more story, but the characters are nice and the descriptions of the setting are lovely. "
— C, 5/13/2013" Ultimately disappointing. While I love most of Bujold's work, this series reads as too slight and romance-oriented for my taste. "
— Efseine, 4/3/2013" Edging towards a 2. It's shallow romantic fantasy, but Bujold is a good writer. Or she was. "
— Ray, 12/11/2012" Not much really happens, but it's pleasant to hang out with Dag and Fawn. "
— Lois, 11/30/2012" Meh. It was OK, but not really much better than book 1. "
— Kate, 5/18/2012" Another great offering by Bujold. She just has a way with words unlike any other. Great series so far. Moving on to #3... "Passage" "
— Jeremy, 3/18/2012" Not as good as the first book, but still very cute and fun to read. "
— Susi, 2/20/2012" Too much family drama for my taste. The action parts were good! "
— Sachin, 8/15/2011" I barely made it through the book one of the series. I only made it a few pages into this one. Way too much of the wrong kind of action for me. I.e. the main characters were spending too much time getting it on and not enough time moving the story forward. "
— Travis, 4/10/2011" On the one hand, it's well-written enough that it swept away (beguiled! Ha!) most of my day. On the other hand, plot-wise I still feel like I've only read the first third of the story. Which I guess is why it's a series. "
— Emily, 4/7/2011" Better than the first one in the series, maybe even a 3.5 "
— Jane, 11/17/2010" Another good read, interesting "magic" in this fantasy series.

Lots o lovin-but they're married now, which is a little easier for me to take... "
— Mollie, 10/27/2010" Another AWESOME BOOK!! I could not put it down until I was finished. My only gripe is that Dar was being so prejudice to Fawn causing Dag to be exiled. I hope in this next book that Dag gets revenge. "
— Beth, 10/22/2010" Crit to come. Still thinking, percolating... "
— Elle, 10/7/2010" Brilliant, brilliant! Darker than the first but no less riveting. Full of plot twists and a more deeper understanding unfolds of the world Bujold has created. I ripped through this one and am darn glad I had the foresight to check out the third from my library in advance. "
— Cat, 9/26/2010" You'd think I would have learned my lesson with the first one, but it was quite the opposite - I stayed up till 3 in the morning with this one! "
