The dwarfish, fetally damaged yet brilliant Miles Vorkosigan has more than his share of troubles. Having recently escaped an assassination plot whose tool was a brainwashed clone of himself, Miles has set the clone, Mark, free for a new chance at life. But when he decides to let his clone brother assume his secret identity and lead the Dendarii Free Mercenary on an unauthorized mission to liberate other clones from the outlaw planet of Jackson’s Whole, things start to get really messy. The mission goes awry, Miles’ rescue attempt goes even more wrong, and Miles ends up killed and placed in cryogenic suspension for future resuscitation. Then, as if that weren’t bad enough, the cryo-container is lost! Now it is up to the confused, disturbed Mark to either take Miles’ place as heir of the Vorkosigan line or redeem himself by finding and saving Miles.

"First, I fell in love with Miles as a character in Warrior's Apprentice. I thought that he was the epiphany of Bujold's writing. Then I met his mother Cordelia, and I became even more impressed. Surely, this was her greatest creation. Well, with Mark, she has surpassed herself yet again! "

“[An] intricate and rousing new installment of the Vorkosigan adventures…Bujold creates a tapestry of variegated human societies dispersed throughout a colorful galaxy. She peoples it with introspective but genuine heroes who seize the reader’s imagination and intellect.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)“As good a story as ever was offered as science fiction, with Bujold’s carefully crafted prose, logical working out of even minor plot points, and inimitable wit all very much in evidence. Deserves the highest recommendation and a hoard of eager readers.”
— Booklist“It’s obvious by now that the wit, charm, and headlong, impetuous genius of Miles Naismith Vorkosigan (and his various personae) have transformed the stuff of standard military space opera into something far more delicious—and addictive.”
— Locus“Giving distinct personalities to a pair of genetically identical protagonists is a tall order, yet between Bujold’s words and Gardner’s nuanced performance, the two lead characters remain effortlessly distinct. What’s more, the secondary characters are portrayed with the same care. It is hard to imagine a better reading of this material.”
— SFFAudio.com“A storyteller of incomparable brilliance, Ms. Bujold has outdone herself in this unforgettable adventure of the human spirit.”
— Romantic Times“Bujold juggles this complex plot beautifully and develops Mark as a very interesting and complex character…Mirror Dance has made me a convert.”
— Denver Post" How else can you rate such a pivotal book in a series? I've said before that these books may not ponder the great questions of the universe, but they do make you think about your own motives, friendships, ambitions, and sense of humor. And, they're fun! "
— Jane, 4/4/2011" Mark impersonates Naismith in order to try and rescue some clones. The rescue goes badly wrong and Miles comes to the rescue. "
— June, 3/29/2011" I want to like these books, but I always finish without quite liking them. It's never bad enough that I stop reading or to keep me from picking another book in the series a few years later, but there are so many little things that bother me. Contradictions! "
— Sarah, 2/19/2011" One of my favorite books. Bujold is superb at characterization and she explores some very complex themes in this book. Pretty heady for SF. "
— Monica, 1/5/2011" One of the best books in the Vorkosigan series. The work Bujold does here with the characters' changing viewpoints is really impressive. (Pay attention to how characters self-identify at different points of the story) "
— Chris, 10/6/2010" Best of the Vorkosigan saga. While the books stands-alone mostly it is highly recommended that the previous books are read first. Particularly as this involves a catharsis of sorts related to previous build-up. "
— CK, 9/27/2010" great book! keeps me propelled through the saga. "
