The Spiderwick Chronicles leave the old-fashioned charm of New England far behind and head south for some fiendish faerie fun in the hot Florida sun. Eleven-year-old Nicholas Vargas only thinks his life has been turned upside down after his developer father remarries and moves his new wife and daughter into the soon-to-be completed Mangrove Hollow.
But an "expedition" to a nearby lake turns up a little nixie with a giant problem - the huge, lumbering, fire-breathing variety - and it's up to Nick; his stepsister, Laurie; and his big brother, Julian (plus a familiar face from the original Spiderwick Chronicles) to figure out the best way to stop a host of rampaging giants before all of Florida goes up in smoke.

"These books are very special to me as I poured over them, the spin-off series (Beyond The Spiderwick Chronicles) and the supplementary materials (including the actual Field Guide) when I was younger. However, it is true that they are not fantastically written, but I love them all the same."
— Rosie (5 out of 5 stars)
“A neat mix of the whimsical, the weird, and the exciting.”
— Barnes & Noble, editorial reviewFans of the Spiderwick Chronicles, rejoice! The saga continues, brimming with the same sly humor and old-fashioned design that marked the original series.”
— Booklist" good, really short, i read it in less than 2 hours "
— Isabel, 2/18/2014" i do believe this book hasnt come out yet, but i read all of the other spiderwick books and they were all pretty neat, so i would like to read this one sooner or later. "
— Taylor, 2/6/2014" I read all of the original Spiderwick Chronicles and thought they were mediocre at best, so I really wasn't expecting much out of this book, but I was still disappointed. Obviously these books are not supposed to be Tolkien-level writing, but if I wanted to introduce my children to fantasy literature, I just don't think I'd choose these. For example, there is too much focus on the fantasy aspect of the story and very little on developing strong characters with any kind of moral underpinnings. I'll give it two stars instead of one, however, because I may have lost my edge in evaluating adolescent literature when I turned twelve. "
— Ryan, 2/5/2014" So I haven't read the real Spiderwick C. yet, but will probably finish the first and second books tonight. This was a bit different than I expected. I mean, I think I'd tell that Nixie to shut the hell up and that I didn't owe her anything. Still, good book and perfect for kids 7-10 "
— Julia, 1/26/2014" It was really cool how they saw Jared from the other books!! "
— Bek, 1/18/2014" This bonus series is not a good at the original series. "
— Jenny, 1/8/2014" A quick little read and a cute story. The pages are only about half filled with words, the rest blank space and occasional illustrations. Makes me wish I had the rest of the series. "
— Twyla, 12/22/2013" I wanted to read more after the spider wick series. I found the beyond. I do not think they are as good a the series. "
— Emily, 12/22/2013" It's much like the first Spiderwick Chronicles. There is nothing different or special about it. At first it is really slow but it is still good for little kids. "
— Alexis, 12/21/2013" It was AMAZING!!!!!! A guy get a step sister and thinks she a geek and hes not wrong! She tells him that if he finds a four-leafed cover to give it to her. But he doesn't listen. That night there was a storm and he Sees a Nixie and she needs some help............ "
— Charlotte, 12/17/2013" Definitely not as good as the first Spiderwick Chronicles series but still good. I think I just don't like the main characters as much and I can't stand Taloa. "

— Jan, 11/8/2013" I read this with my eight year old and I wasn't impressed with the language it used for a young reader. Of course the eight year old loved it and wants to read the next one. I guess it worked for me to read to him and edit a little as I went along. He didn't really hear the parts I changed. "
— Marilee, 10/23/2013" It was ok. But it's diffrent from the other spiderwick series. "
— Kaden, 9/28/2013" entertaining enough spin-off series opener set in florida. "
— Karin, 8/27/2013" Cute and short. Not much depth since it's for relatively young children, but I think it's a fun series. "

— Bek, 1/11/2011" Not what I would call an entertaining read - hardly worth my time with its poor plot structure; but since I'm an avid reader of the original Spiderwick series, I owe it to Tony and Holly to be generous with my rating - even though I feel like I'm betraying the Grace children. "
— Sarah, 1/2/2011" I really loved it. It was the first Spiderwickc I ever read, and I just really enjoyed it. "
