Now a major motion picture starring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba. An atmospheric, suspenseful and gripping story of two people finding love while fighting to survive. When a blizzard strands them in Salt Lake City, two strangers agree to charter a plane together, hoping to return home; Ben Payne is a gifted surgeon returning from a conference, and Ashley Knox, a magazine writer, is en route to her wedding. But when unthinkable tragedy strikes, the pair find themselves stranded in Utah’s most remote wilderness in the dead of winter, badly injured and miles from civilization. Without food or shelter, and only Ben’s mountain climbing gear to protect themselves, Ashley and Ben’s chances for survival look bleak, but their reliance on each other sparks an immediate connection, which soon evolves into something more. Days in the mountains become weeks, as their hope for rescue dwindles. How will they make it out of the wilderness and if they do, how will this experience change them forever? Heart-wrenching and unputdownable, The Mountain Between Us will reaffirm your belief in the power of love to sustain us.

"This book seemed like a very slow read for me. It felt very methodical but it had to be to explain how Ben was thinking, getting them off the mountain after the crash. I liked the chapters going back and forth with him talking in his recorder and with him trying to help both he and Ashley. If I ever got stuck somewhere like this, I'd hope it would be with someone who could keep his head together and a doctor too! I was not expecting the ending, which had me in tears."

“Charles Martin understands the power of story and he uses it to alter the souls and lives of both his characters and his readers.”
— Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times bestselling author" Very good book for my long drive on the road last weekend. I'm sure the book will be better than the movie (they always are!), but I'm looking forward to seeing it. "
— Shannon, 10/26/2017" Looking for a good clean romance with a little adventure? Here's your book. The only thing I didn't like was feeling guilty for eating anything while reading, since the main characters are practically starving :). "
— Cielle, 2/8/2014" I really enjoyed this story, and was in suspense from beginning 'till end. About mid-way through I was thinking it was a little too cheezy, and Ben Payne's recordings to his wife were almost unrealistically loving...but at the end when it all came together I realized why much better. Very suspenseful and interesting, and I loved seeing how they survived in such harsh circumstances. "
— Susan, 2/6/2014" Wow -- I wasn't expecting much from this book -- just a regular boy meets girl novel. It was so much more than that -- adventure and an unexpected twist at the end. Really liked it! "
— Beth, 2/2/2014" I enjoyed this story. The twist at the end surprised me. The survival tale against harrowing odds and refusing to leave the girl behind made it interesting. A love story really. "
— Malina, 1/27/2014" I really enjoyed this book. I like survival stories (along with a little romance)! I was also surprised by the ending! "
— Patsy, 1/15/2014" Best book I've read in a long time. "
— Denice, 1/7/2014" When two people are stranded in the snowy mountains of Utah following a plane crash, the story of their survival is laced with too many coincidences. I was most bothered by the dialogue, which was extensive and full of wit. Hard to believe anyone would feel so chatty when suffering broken bones and starvation. The twist at the end explained some of the forced plot choices in the novel. "
— Sallie, 1/6/2014" An amazing book! Loved it! "
— Jill, 1/2/2014" Really liked this book. The end will surprise you. "
— Elsie, 12/14/2013" Predictable and a little mushy, gushy at time but all in all, a satisfying and entertaining read. "
— Amanda, 11/30/2013" If you like Nicholas Sparks, Charles Martin is for you! Please give him a try; you won't be disappointed! "
— JoAnn, 11/11/2013" Survival story. Little unrealistic but enjoyable. "
— Kathy, 11/1/2013" I so enjoyed everything up until the ending. So disappointed. "
— Jeannene, 10/29/2013" Another winner by Charles Martin. Beautiful ending. Im not one to cry while reading, but his last few books have sucked me in, and found me teary eyed at the end. "
— Kristy, 10/29/2013" Better than I expected it to be. The character development was great and you became friends with the characters. "
— LeAnn, 10/23/2013" So good, warm and fuzzy! 4.5 "
— Kara, 10/19/2013" OMG, THIS was the most fantastic book! It was a survival story (plane crash in the frozen mountains), adventurous and had a surprising twist at the end that I was not expecting that made me cry TWICE at the end. I LOVED this book and highly recommend it . . . it was definitely a page turner. "
— Monica, 5/13/2013" LOVED it! Kept me up late and made me cry. Thank you Readers Digest for including this selection in the last book I got before canceling my subscription after getting my Kindle. "
— Lisa, 5/12/2013" Two stranded after plane crashes in snowy mountain. Great book. "
— Jenny, 10/8/2012" This was a real page-turner for me. The author used realistic descriptions and details that had me feeling I was there with them, surviving the plane crash and digging my way down the mountain in that landscape where "hell had indeed frozen over." I loved the plot twist and the ending. A great read! "
— Kim, 10/1/2012" Liked this most at first but felt it became a little predictable by the end. Still, will seek more by this author! "

— Laura, 2/22/2012" Good summer read - kept me entertained. Had planned to read it on a flight from Oregon to Atlanta, but changed my mind when I realized the book started with a plane crash! Kinda slow at some points, but kept my interest. Great twist at the end that I definitely didn't see coming! "
— Melissa, 2/6/2012" Faith based book that was very engaging. A very enjoyable book. "
— Karen, 12/31/2011" I couldn't put this book down. The end had a morbid twist. But it was still a great book. "
— Angie, 10/27/2011" A very emotionally difficult book to read but what a story! And, you truly get drawn in to the truly horrific situation of the characters, finding yourself flipping to the last pages just to see if anyone survives. Very well written. "
— Nancy, 8/24/2011" A mediocre book by an author whom I really like. <br/> "
— Madeline, 6/25/2011" Charles Martin writes amazing love stories and this one is no different. It is a grown up version of Hatchet by Gary Paulson. His descriptions of what it took to endure in the cold wilderness and rough terrain had me cringing. I can't wait for his next book. "
— Kelly, 6/21/2011" I loved this. From the first sentence, I was drawn in, and couldn't put it down. Until . . . and then I was so let down. Even though I should have seen it coming. I really liked the writing style of Charles Martin and found this to be an easy, enjoyable read. "
— Jennifer, 6/20/2011" It takes a lot for me to say a book was "amazing" but this was just that. Great story and one of the better books I've read in some time! "
— Taryn, 6/19/2011" Great adventure, suspense novel and love story in one with an interesting twist. I mostly figure out these things, but only had a hint at the end. Couldn't put it down. "
— Lila, 6/18/2011" I hesitated to read this book thinking it was another predictable romance. I'm glad I changed my mind. I enjoyed the survival aspects of the book and kind of skimmed through the romance. "
— Beth, 6/12/2011" An excellent book about determination and survival. It is our Book Club book this month. "
— Mimi, 6/7/2011" A beautiful read revealing some aspects of the inside world of a man's heart ... and a great twist "
