"One of the best historical romance series I've read. Jennifer Ashley's MacKenzie brothers are all distinct characters, as are their ladies, and the family as a whole is nicely woven through the three books published so far. Of those three, MSOLC is my absolute, hands-down favorite. Both Cam and Ainsley are so well-done. They are older people with uneasy pasts that are very contemporary. I like that Ashley has taken this approach with the MacKenzie books, it refreshes the genre for me and gave me more reasons to invest in her characters. This one will be re-read many times."

Ashley's latest flawlessly written historical romance richly rewards romance [fans] with its multilayered characterization; sexy, secrets-saturated plotting; sharp wit; and enthralling writing.
— Booklist Starred Review" Awesome audio book! Great story! "
— Mitzi, 2/20/2014" loved loved loved this book! review coming soon! "
— Jodie, 2/17/2014" Still can't supplant Ian and Beth as my favorites, but Cameron and Ainsley are close seconds. A sweet book that finally sheds some light on Cameron's troubled past, I enjoyed the way their romance unfolded. The sidebars with Eleanor and the reaolution with Night-blooming Jasmine both felt a little clunky, but apparently I don't like anything that distracts from the hero and heroine in Ashley's books. "
— Julia, 2/15/2014" Blimey i love how some of these authors write...sometimes when im reading the racey parts i think how on earth do they think to put it into words..but they do and she does...makes me tingle reading them lol...love it...wished i had realised it was one of a series as i would of started with the first one...so i will read some other books and then go back to the others...it was a yummy read... "
— Charmaine, 1/24/2014" I loved this book! Cameron has darkness he is afraid to closely examine and Ainsley accepts him unconditionally - a requirement for profound love. "
— Kim, 1/16/2014" Not my favorite of this series, or of this author. I actually toyed with putting it down, but picked it up and finished it. Okay. Nothing special. "
— Journeywoman, 12/11/2013" I didn't get quite as pulled in by this story as by the first book in the series, nor was it as unique. I liked both of the main characters well enough, but it was a lukewarm kind of like rather than a passionately love -- despite all the passionate boffing they were constantly engaging in. "
— Heliga, 10/30/2013" So perfect, and so sad about all that happened to Cameron. His first wife got off way to easy if you ask me... :P "
— Samie, 10/3/2013" Eh. There was nothing wrong with it, it just didn't really pull me in and I only made it through the first 100 pages. "
— Elizabeth, 7/22/2013" I really felt bad for Cam throughout the book. But it didn't leave me completely satisfied! "
— Sababa, 7/19/2013" Love love loved this book!!!!! :-) "
— Monroe, 5/14/2013" I read this one last because I couldn't find the pb and finally downloaded it. I loved this series, because the heroes were haunted, but it wasn't romanticized. And THANK YOU, Jennifer Ashley, for creating such unique women! "
— Lissa, 4/10/2013" Good romance, better then the previous one. They're so similar now, but I can't wait for the next. I wish that Ainsley was a stronger female character, as I thought she was when we thought she was a spy/thief at the beginning. But I did like Cam and Daniel, and hope to one day see Daniel's story.
