Based on the family from the bestselling Love in a Nutshell, the story of an heiress longing to marry for love or not at all...

From The New York Times bestselling writing duo Janet Evanovich and Dorien Kelly, comes the story of a young woman's search for true love. Caroline Maxwell would like nothing more than to join her brother, Eddie, and his friend, Jack Culhane, on their adventures. While Jack and Eddie are off seeing the world, buying up businesses and building wildly successful careers, Caroline's stuck at home frightening off the men her mother hopes will ask for her hand in marriage. When her mother sets her sights on the questionable Lord Bremerton as a possible suitor, Caroline struggles with her instincts and the true nature of her heart. She longs for adventure, passion, love, and most of all . . . Jack Culhane, an unconventional Irish-American bachelor with new money and no title. A completely unacceptable suitor in the eyes of Caroline's mother. But Caroline's dark hair, brilliant eyes and quick wit have Jack understanding just why it is people fall in love and get married.

Set in New York City in 1894, The Husband List is an American gilded age romantic mystery. It evokes memories of the lavish lifestyles and social expectations of the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers—a time when new money from the Americas married Old World social prestige and privilege. Dresses by Worth, transcontinental ocean voyages, lavish parties, a little intrigue, and a lot of romance await in, The Husband List.

" I loved Gillian's independence and how she approached Richard and proposed to him. It was an good read on the romance side, I loved how Richard was living two lives as it were and how it ended with Gillian confusing him and playing with his mind! I didn't give this a 5 out of 5 because I felt something was wanting in the intensity of the romance. It was sweet but not as intense or as emotionally powerful as I wanted. I did love the twist at the end about the special paintings Gillian had though so that redeemed the story somewhat in what I thought was lacking. "

" I had read the first in this series several years ago, and it made no difference to me picking up the connections in the series. "

" The idea of this book sounded promising and the first few pages were nice, but then it all fell apart. I don't get how this book got such a high score when even the sex scenes are boring. If you liked the two identities idea - read the Beast by Judith Ivory. If you liked the husband list idea - read Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught. The Husband List is a waste of time. "

" This book was okay. I didn't get any emotions from it, so it felt lacking in the romance for me. I missed the humor from the first book and found myself just skimming through. "

" Loved it. Not as steamy as a Lisa Kleypas but a very fun read. About a woman who will inherit a great deal but she needs to wed by her 30th birthday or lose it all. After having 2 male friends help her create a husband list she chooses one of the men and proposes to him. Very fun. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Joy | 2/9/2013

" Fairly run of the mill Regency romance. Gillian Marley needs to marry to inherit a fortune; Richard Shelbrooke needs money to restore his family fortunes. The themes of art and gender are better in theory than in execution here, and the pacing is a weird mix of overly drawn out and rushed. "

" I've had this book for years, but for some reason never read it. Fast moving and fun! Loved both characters, as well as the secondary characters in the book. Yet another book I was up till the middle of the night because I had to finish it. "
