Turn-of-the-century detective Isaac Bell pursues a blood-thirsty bank robber—and perhaps one of the world’s first sociopaths—in the first novel in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series. In 1906, the western states of America suffer a string of bank robberies by a single man who then cold-bloodedly murders any and all witnesses, and vanishes without a trace. But Bell has never had a challenge like this one. From Arizona to Colorado to the streets of San Francisco during its calamitous earthquake and fire, he pursues a fiend who seems to draw pleasure from the challenge and a woman who may to hold the key to the man’s identity. As Bell begins to suspect a new term used among top psychologists, sociopath, may describe his target, the Butcher Bandit turns the chase around on him. The hunter becomes the hunted. And soon, it will take all of Bell’s skills not merely to prevail . . . but to survive. Filled with intricate plotting, Cussler’s signature dazzling set pieces, and not one but two extraordinary villains, The Chase is the master working at the height of his powers.

"I did enjoy this one and really liked Evan. Kendall annoyed me a bit when she did the same thing to him that she had done 10 years previously that had destroyed their relationship... Had she learned nothing?? Thankfully, she grabbed her brains and everything was resolved. I love Erin McCarthy's writing as you always get a giggle out of her books."
— Dee (4 out of 5 stars)
" Love iiiiiit. x "
— Elena, 2/18/2014" I love this series by Erin McCarthy. I really like her style of writing...it flows quickly and is light. She really lets the characters thoughts come across. You cant help but love the characters. She has lots of love scenes throughtout the book. This book was very good...I highly recomend this series. "
— Christina, 2/7/2014" I couldn't do it. Maybe I will pick it up again. The characters were very immature, and the whole thing just annoyed me. "
— Miss, 2/7/2014" Ummm...ya pissed about that ending...wth...someone please explain to me WHY???? "
— Monroe, 1/27/2014" Oh man. Best one yet. The characters are so human. You forget it's a story. Gotta say Erin McCarthy has got to be one of my favorite writers!! "
— Nikole, 1/25/2014" 2 1/2 stars After having read this book, I think that I am officially finished with this series. From the very beginning, this was almost a DNF for me. The reason...Kendall and Evan were boyfriend and girlfriend 10 years before, but broke up over the stupidest, most ridiculous misunderstanding caused by lack of communication. This is one of my pet peeves when reading a romance. (Reviewer Jane Stewart has the perfect list of 7 pet peeves found in romance novels. Thanks Jane!) Well, if the author had continued with this misunderstanding I would have been DONE! However, the book really picked up 1/3 of the way in and I was really beginning to enjoy it. THEN, the ending came. Horrible. Unbelievable. Worst ending ever. It really left me cold. So, the 2 1/2 stars are for the middle of the story. "
— Kerry, 1/21/2014" Can't wait for the book on Eve. In this series we have loved her... "
— Barbara, 1/9/2014" I didn't like this one NEARLY as much as the others in this series. Plus, the big "surprise" at the end of the book just felt weird to me, as it did to many others. "
— Nicole, 1/7/2014" I think Kendall and Evan's Story is by far the most Raw and Emotional of all of the Fast Track novels so far. "
— Mandy, 11/23/2013" I enjoyed this steamy story set in the world of car racing. I liked the pace at which they worked through their problems. Kendall is finally realizing her dream as a female race car driver when she encounters fellow racer Evan, a childhood love who broke her heart. "
— Dawn, 11/23/2013" I loved this one! So dang fun! "
— Tara, 11/6/2013" Cute story. I was so happy to see a big misunderstanding worked out through communication early in the book. Evan and Kendall are both likable characters. Took off a star for the WTF moment at the end of the story. Aside from that this was a good addition to an enjoyable, fun series. "
— Norma, 10/24/2013" As always, Erin McCarthy did a great job with her fast track series. It was hot and steamy with great characters. Can't wait to read the next one featuring Tuesday Jones! "
— Courtney, 9/29/2013" GOOD SERIES so far. These are well written, enjoyable, happy ever after romances. Just what a girl needs every once in a while. "
— Selena, 9/29/2013" Lots of hot sex, but I didn't like the heroine. She was very insecure and because of her insecurities she treated the hero very badly. "
— Jill, 5/7/2013" Maybe 3.5 - I did like that she didn't play the "we were lovers gone wrong as teens" angle out a long time. It was nice to see a pair that realized they WANTED to work out the mistake of the past. "
— Shea, 3/18/2013" It wasn't too bad, it just wasn't as good as the previous ones. Bummer. "
— BamaGal, 2/18/2013" ...another quick read. Fairly light. But very ...ummmm... outspoken in regards to the h/h discussing things. "
— Deborah, 12/31/2012" A fast paced throughly enjoyable series to read! "
— Beckey, 12/16/2012" Well-written, fun, steamy series about the racecar circuit. Interesting characters, interesting situations, including illiteracy. "
— Judy, 7/27/2012" This was such a great book. I think the best in the Fast Track series. My heart felt like it was tossed around with all the things the main characters had to deal with. "
— Sandy, 6/15/2012" I don't think Erin McCarthy can write a book I don't thoroughly enjoy. It's just not possible! She's the best. "
— Celeste, 5/23/2012" I did not like the end, but the book was good, better than the one with Suzanne and Ryder. "
— Traci, 3/15/2012" I thought when I started and for 80% of the way through that this was going to be a 5 star book for me. I loved the characters - I was feeling it so much - and then blam - I don't like what happened near the end. I hope this doesn't continue later in the series. "
— Anne, 2/11/2012" A new romance author for me and one I'm glad I picked up. The author deftly avoids tired cliches by having the characters TALK about the bad break up they had in chapter two. I will definitely be buying another book in the series "
— Nicole, 11/1/2011" An action-packed quick read. Don't expect to be enlightened, but sometimes you just need entertainment, and this book provided just that. "
— Nickwhipple, 6/28/2011" I really enjoyed this book. The history is fascinating as is the detective work of the early part of this century. I love Isaac Bell. "
— Sue, 6/21/2011" I loved the historical and geographical. But I am a character driven reader and the characters weren't very real for me. "
— Marilyn, 6/20/2011" Sometimes over-explains history, facts, etc. but entertaining read. "
— Amy, 6/2/2011" I don't particularly like westerns, so when I started the book, I thought I might not like it. But it was not completely a western. I kept my interest from when I picked up and when I put it down 2 and a half hours later finished. "
— Michael, 6/2/2011" Clive cussler books always make me interested in the history....awesome stuff about quake of 1906 san francisco, takes a long time to read, spend half my time on wiki reading about history. "
— Kim, 5/29/2011" Solid Clive Cussler! If you like his stuff, you will like this one too. Good stuff!! "
— Nate, 5/19/2011" Cussler is always a good read, but I especially enjoyed this one. It is very different from his other books and series. The story takes place in the early 1900's and is just a great, fun read. You have your action and adventure and some romance thrown in. I highly recommend The Chase. "
— Mary, 5/6/2011" This was my first Cussler book, and will probably be my last. While it held my interest enough to finish it, the pure good vs pure evil became almost laughable, and the incredible achievements of the vehicles of that era was way off the charts. "
— carl, 4/17/2011" i thought the dialogue was absolutely amaturish.the male female interaction was corny.this was my first clive kussler and my last! "
— Tom, 4/13/2011" Classical Clive Cussler. A clever person is a powerful one. No matter what you do, it never tastes as the thing u long most doing. "
— Arman, 4/3/2011" read at ccp. this was horseshit. i didn't know cussler was this bad. "
— James, 3/19/2011" Ok I admit it, I read it - nice story...and it allowed me to decompress from the week...whew "
— Lee, 3/6/2011" This was a good book and I had read it before. I didn't like it aa well as "The Wrecker" This was the first one of that series. "
