Turn-of-the-century detective Isaac Bell pursues a blood-thirsty bank robber—and perhaps one of the world’s first sociopaths—in the first novel in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series. In 1906, the western states of America suffer a string of bank robberies by a single man who then cold-bloodedly murders any and all witnesses, and vanishes without a trace. Fed up by the depredations of “The Butcher Bandit,” the U.S. government brings in the best man it can find: a tall, lean, no-nonsense detective named Isaac Bell, who has caught thieves and killers from coast to coast. But Bell has never had a challenge like this one. From Arizona to Colorado to the streets of San Francisco during its calamitous earthquake and fire, he pursues a fiend who seems to draw pleasure from the challenge and a woman who may to hold the key to the man’s identity. As Bell begins to suspect a new term used among top psychologists, sociopath, may describe his target, the Butcher Bandit turns the chase around on him. The hunter becomes the hunted. And soon, it will take all of Bell’s skills not merely to prevail . . . but to survive. Filled with intricate plotting, Cussler’s signature dazzling set pieces, and not one but two extraordinary villains, The Chase is the master working at the height of his powers.

"I did enjoy this one and really liked Evan. Kendall annoyed me a bit when she did the same thing to him that she had done 10 years previously that had destroyed their relationship... Had she learned nothing?? Thankfully, she grabbed her brains and everything was resolved. I love Erin McCarthy's writing as you always get a giggle out of her books."

— Elena, 2/18/2014" I love this series by Erin McCarthy. I really like her style of writing...it flows quickly and is light. She really lets the characters thoughts come across. You cant help but love the characters. She has lots of love scenes throughtout the book. This book was very good...I highly recomend this series. "
— Christina, 2/7/2014" I couldn't do it. Maybe I will pick it up again. The characters were very immature, and the whole thing just annoyed me. "
— Miss, 2/7/2014" Ummm...ya pissed about that ending...wth...someone please explain to me WHY???? "
— Monroe, 1/27/2014" Oh man. Best one yet. The characters are so human. You forget it's a story. Gotta say Erin McCarthy has got to be one of my favorite writers!! "
— Nikole, 1/25/2014" 2 1/2 stars After having read this book, I think that I am officially finished with this series. From the very beginning, this was almost a DNF for me. The reason...Kendall and Evan were boyfriend and girlfriend 10 years before, but broke up over the stupidest, most ridiculous misunderstanding caused by lack of communication. This is one of my pet peeves when reading a romance. (Reviewer Jane Stewart has the perfect list of 7 pet peeves found in romance novels. Thanks Jane!) Well, if the author had continued with this misunderstanding I would have been DONE! However, the book really picked up 1/3 of the way in and I was really beginning to enjoy it. THEN, the ending came. Horrible. Unbelievable. Worst ending ever. It really left me cold. So, the 2 1/2 stars are for the middle of the story. "
— Kerry, 1/21/2014" Can't wait for the book on Eve. In this series we have loved her... "
— Barbara, 1/9/2014" I didn't like this one NEARLY as much as the others in this series. Plus, the big "surprise" at the end of the book just felt weird to me, as it did to many others. "
— Nicole, 1/7/2014" I think Kendall and Evan's Story is by far the most Raw and Emotional of all of the Fast Track novels so far. "
— Mandy, 11/23/2013" I enjoyed this steamy story set in the world of car racing. I liked the pace at which they worked through their problems. Kendall is finally realizing her dream as a female race car driver when she encounters fellow racer Evan, a childhood love who broke her heart. "
— Dawn, 11/23/2013" I loved this one! So dang fun! "
