" Very enjoyable read. Still trying to figure out if it is appropriate for a 4th grade classroom library. The narrator, PK Pinkerton is a uniques voice and I loved the plot twists and characters. So much of this story was wonderful, but some overly violent scenes and references to sex make me just a little nervous about 'endorsing' it to 9-year-olds. "

" An ripsnorting romp from beginning to end! P.K. is a terrific character who is easy to care about. I can't wait for more "cases." "

" A rip roaring adventure with a young boy "Pinky" who tries to stay alive while 3 desperadoes who killed his parents, chase after him trying to get their hands on potential riches. Clverly written, great characters from the old West. "

" If you ever watched Deadwood and thought, "It's good, but I wish it were funnier. And that the hero was a twelve-year old, half-Native kid with Asperger's tendencies." then this is pretty much the perfect book for you. And I mean that in the best possible way, because I do love myself some Deadwood. And this? I enjoyed it ever so much. Like, actually glad it's going to be a series because I want more adventures with this crew, so much and I say things like that very rarely. Just really fun (but also informative!) and a quick pace and actual, legitimate adventure. "

" Funny. Mystery. Starts with our hero PK at the bottom of a mine shaft with 3 deadly desperados after him. Imperfect character, sometimes you wonder how he survives! "

" First in the Western Mysteries series, Pinky Pinkerton goes on the run after finding his foster parents scalped. Pinky hops a stagecoach to Virginia City, where he encounters adults and tries to decide who to trust. Pinky has a "thorn," which is his inability to read people or show emotion of his own. Fast paced, a likeable character and historical fiction (1862) make this lots of fun to read. I will suggest it to 5th/6th grade. A touch of Wild West violence and language may upset the highly sensitive, but I think that's what makes it interesting. "

" I just couldn't get into this YA Lit. "

" I would have given it 5 stars but for the fact that it is written for young readers and I thought it had a bit more language and some references/situations with "old west prostitutes" that were a bit more than I want my 8 or 10yo reading. Too bad, because the rest of it was fantastic. "

" I felt that too much happens in this book in too short a time period, but I did want to know what had happened... "

" This western is a mystery with a liberal dash of humor about an orphaned boy who is trying to find out what the cryptic paper he was given by his mother really means. There is lots of action and adventure in this book, and you can't help liking the the spunky narrator Pinky. "

" I didn't know much about this book when I picked it up, but ridiculously pleased to see that it was set in virginia city. They story is a bit slow moving, and I didn't think the mystery was superb, but I enjoyed it overall and would consider picking up the sequels. "
