"Van Lustbader picks up exceedingly well where Robert Ludlum left off. So often shadow writers who try to follow a great genre or series with their own sequels provide mere pale imitations or worse. Not so with this book. Ludlum fans will devour the fast action, intrigue and multiple paths this book provides so well. The aithor has used Ludlum's Bourne novels rather than the popular movies as his background for this story. As is so often the case the movies are great but Ludlum's original novels are SO much better! Some of van Lustbader's supporting characters are not overly developed and now and then the reader experiences a "yeah sure - as if that could really happen" moment but this is fast moving adventure not extraordinary literature. As an action adventure novel this one excels. A fantastic read for pure enjoyment."

Quotes

  • “It's a hearty serving of meat and potatoes action adventure, just the sort of fare that both Ludlum's and Lustbader's fans relish.

    — Publishers Weekly
  • Lustbader remains a fine choice to fill Ludlum's large shoes, and he has delivered a work worthy of the Bourne legacy.

" Quick read and fits well in the spy genera. However, fans of the original Bourne series, as written by Ludlum, will be a bit disappointed. I give it a 2 1/2 out of 4, whereas the original series easily gets a 4 out of 4. "

" I've only seen the movies so I can't compare it to Ludlum's original books. This is written by another author (the Ludlum estate appears to be franchising the Bourne brand). It's an easy read and kept me engaged, though the plot wasn't as complicated or as deep as other spy/action/thrillers. "

" It was okay. The author puts Bourne in situations in which he routinely gets his butt handed to him, which is a little out of character, but I guess that's okay. The action was also a little lacking compared to the original trilogy, but overall it's not a bad story. "
