"Like the first three books in this series, this one, the fourth, is a good, solid, twisty mystery that's also funny, thanks to the irrepressibly witty narrator, lawyer Andy Carpenter. And though these aren't really dog mysteries, they are all enhanced by the presence of lovely golden retrievers. This is probably the best in the series so far (I've been reading them in order). Highly recommended for readers who enjoy a suspenseful, thrilling, well-written murder mystery with just the right amount of humor to keep the mood from getting too dark."

“Grover Gardner, with his deadpan reserve, IS Andy Carpenter.”
— AudioFile“Carpenter is a strong series lead, one of those wisecracking-but-don’t-underestimate-him kinds of characters…The author handles the material deftly, mixing humor and whodunit but never letting the comedy overwhelm the mystery. The novels are written in the present tense, a much overused gimmick in the genre; but here it somehow works, helping to sustain tension by establishing that neither Andy nor the reader knows what’s about to happen. A cracking good yarn.”
— Booklist" I find all his books so entertaining and hope you will too. "
— Francie, 4/22/2016" This is the fifth or sixth Andy Carpenter novel I've read, and although I enjoyed it, I didn't find it quite as riveting as the other books I've read. Yes, the ending was a surprise (I love how Rosenfelt does that!), but some of the middle parts actually felt familiar. That's the first time I've felt that way with one of Rosenfelt's books. It was still an enjoyable read. "
— Kelly, 2/19/2014" I'm really enjoying this series - the plots are just twisty enough to be fun without overtaxing your brain to try to remember who's who. The characters are three-dimensional; you really start to care about what happens to them. The main character is funny and quirky without being unrealistic - he has plenty of shortcomings and doesn't hesitate to let you know what they are. "
— Amy, 2/17/2014" I have been enjoying this series, the main character has dry sense of humour and irony about him. Being Australian I don't understand American or in fact Australian football, but you don't need too as it doesn't make a huge dent in the storyline. I felt the storyline was a bit loose this time. It hasn't stopped me ordering the next in the series from the library though. Just a good read. "
— Tasha, 2/16/2014" Another Andy Carpenter book this time about a football player accused of killing another football player. It was good but not great. Who the killer turned out to be was a bit of a stretch for me. "
— Joanne, 2/14/2014" Lots of action, lots of twists and turns. The ending is a surprise and is very sad. "
— Alice, 2/8/2014" I'm enjoying this series of books but this one had a great unexpected ending which I always like. I'm always trying to solve and when I don't get it right away I love it. "
— Linda, 2/7/2014" Great story. Didn't know how he was going to get his client off. It was a bit slow in parts, but a great read. Was solved at the very end of the book. Realistic ending. Would definitely recommend reading. "
— Adria, 1/29/2014" My first in this series, a fun diversion. "
— Michele, 1/27/2014" I LOVE his books! Great stories and such a funny narrator. "
— Pat, 1/20/2014" This is my 3rd David Rosenfelt novel. I think I like it because of Tara his golden retriever. They are nice light detective stories. "
