When Sally’s family moves to Miami Beach for the winter of 1947, she’s excited and nervous at the same time. What will school be like in Florida? Will she make any friends? Will she fit in so far away from home?

But none of this stops Sally from having the most amazing adventures. One minute she’s a famous movie star or a brilliant detective; the next she’s found the Latin lover of her dreams–her classmate Peter Hornstein. And what about the Freedmans’ neighbor, old Mr. Zavodsky, who looks suspiciously like Hitler in disguise?

Sally’s life is a movie played inside her head, and Miami Beach is her best setting yet. If only she didn’t have so much to worry about . . .

" Oh my gosh! When I was a little girl, this was my favorite story. I loved the time period (Esther Williams and Latin Lovers!), the grandma speaking Yiddish, and just fitting in. Sally had a wild imagination and I loved following her on all her adventures. Truly a great story! "

" Finally got my own copy of this book via readitswapit.co.uk! It's just as good as I remember it being as a child, and I still enjoyed it as an adult, unlike Iggie's House. Definitely one to keep for when I have kids. It was particularly interesting to read in the days after I'd visited Auschwitz-Birkenau. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Courtenay | 2/6/2014

" I was so excited to find my favorite Judy Blume books available digitally. Although nothing will ever replace the worn, water-damaged, food-stained classic books of my youth. I can't wait to reread the next one. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Juliet | 1/31/2014

" I didn't like this at first, but as I read more of it I got into it more. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Amulya | 1/30/2014

" I think this was one of the first Judy Blume books I ever read, although Blubber might have been too. And that started years of eating up those books. I remember my mom doing double-takes when she saw me reading a few as a little girl...and now I still am glad I read them. Honestly, I'm pretty sure half of my "girl" knowledge comes from Judy Blume books. But they are definetly a not miss for girls-no matter what age. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 elissa | 1/14/2014

" I think this is based on Blume's childhood, and I also think that it's her only historical fiction. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Tobey | 12/24/2013

" I remember the copy I used to check out from my local library, how I liked the cover art on the copy I owned better. This was one of those books that I owned, but felt compelled to check out of the library periodically as well. This must have been from ages 9-12. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Amelia Guillet | 12/9/2013

" I love that I have found such a large collection of Sally J.Friedman of people who loved this book as much as I did!! It was my first favourite book and it took me a long time to find a book I enjoyed as much as this one. I must read it again. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kate | 12/7/2013

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Beth Lind | 11/11/2013

" Probably my favorite Judy Blume book from my childhood. I so related to the stories that went on in her head. This was the book that introduced me to what happened to the Jews during WWII (sad that it was not ever a part of a single lesson in my entire school career). "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Subin | 10/4/2013

" Sally, the main character thinks very imaginative. Sometimes she is TOO IMAGINATIVE that one day, she thought that a random man was Adolf Hitler! This book is interesting but somehow odd. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Val Jones | 9/5/2013
