Publisher Description

When Deenie finds out that she has scoliosis, she’s scared. When she sees the brace for the first time, she wants to scream.

But the words won’t come out. And Deenie, beautiful Deenie, who everyone says should be a model, is stuck wearing a brace from her neck to her hips. For four years—or longer. She never worried about how she looked before—how will she ever face the hard times ahead?

"Judy Blume doesn't write "literature". But she does write with a certain pleasant spareness - like she's explaining something to a child, very patiently. I like the effect. Wish I'd read this when I was younger though! (Mostly because I wish I'd had this story to reflect back on during middle school, not because of the writing style.)"

" Woo! Way too much adult content for my 8 year old. We're not ready to have that talk yet. That aside, I often feel that towards the end of her books, Blume just stops writing, leaving the reader unsatisfied but not necessarily wanting more either. It's just sort of, meh. "
