From the New York Times best-selling mother-and-son team of Anne McCaffrey and Todd McCaffrey comes the final installment in the riveting Pern saga that began with Todd's solo novel, Dragonsblood. Now, with all of Pern imperiled by the aftereffects of a plague that killed scores of dragons and left the planet helpless against the fall of deadly Thread, the only hope for the future lies in the past.

There, on an unexplored island, a group of dragonriders led by Xhinna, a brave young woman who rides the blue dragon Tazith, must battle lethal Merows and voracious tunnel-snakes to build a safe home for themselves and the dragons, whose offspring will one day if they survive'replenish Pern's decimated dragon population. But as the first female rider of a blue dragon, and the first female Weyrleader in the history of Pern, Xhinna faces an uphill battle in winning the respect and loyalty of her peers... especially after an unforeseen tragedy leaves the struggling colony reeling from a shattering loss.

Amid the grieving, one girl, Jirana, blessed or cursed with the ability to foresee potential futures, will help Xhinna find a way forward. The answer lies in time... or, rather, in timing it: the awesome ability of the dragons to travel through time itself. But that power comes with risks, and by venturing further into the past, Xhinna may be jeopardizing the very future she has sworn to save.

" This is the first Pern book that I am ambivalent towards. I really wanted to like it. But it was just "okay." The first half of the novel seemed somewhat disjointed. It was hard for me to follow the storyline. This got better in the second half, but it just seemed to lack something. I guess I really shouldn't complain. One so-so book in a series this large is quite a feat. Hopefully, there will still be more to come and hopefully they will be up to previous standards. "

" To be perfectly honest I really have mixed emotions regarding this books. I just couldn't get lost in the story. The names were too much alike... I'm sad that this is her last book but it is what it is. Anne McCaffrey, will be known for her great work. We have a large library in my town and I'm going to pass this off to them. I would like for others to have a chance to read it. This book just simply wasn't for me. I have read several great reviews on the book so it just goes to show we're all differnt. "

" Another substandard, badly characterized Pern book perpetuated by Mr. Todd McCaffrey. I regret to say he should really get his own world, and stop mangling Pern. Very much not up to the standard of Anne McCaffrey's solo Pern books. "

" I should have known better after my last Todd McCaffrey book. This one is worse- it picks up where a previous one left off but with no explanation for anyone who didn't read the previous book(s) or doesn't remember. Nor is there one of those nice lists of characters like his mom always did. I actually didn't bother to read the whole thing. "

" Another time travelling trip on Pern. This time we get to know the people and dragons from an unconventional Weyr with a female blue dragon rider leading the way forward. The numerous problems they face lead to a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Have a tissue or two handy. "

" Not the Best Pern book ever but it was a nice story. I think he need to go forward at this point and stop intermingling the same 5 or 6 years in 4 stories . "

" This was a great book. Anne and Todd McCaffrey did a great job writing it. Xhinna, Taria, Fiona, Lorana, and the others have more adventures raising dragons to repopulate the Weyrs so that they can fight Thread and save Pern. "
