Ever since Tory Brennan and her friends rescued Cooper, a kidnapped wolf pup with a rare strain of canine parvovirus, they’ve turned from regular kids into a crime-solving pack! But now the very place that brought them together—the Loggerhead Island Research Institute—is out of funding and will have to shut down. That is, unless the Virals can figure out a way to save it.

So when Tory learns of an old Charleston legend about a famous she-pirate, Anne Bonney, whose fortune was never found, she can’t believe her luck—buried treasure is exactly what she needs to save the Institute on Loggerhead! Trouble is, she and her friends aren’t the only ones looking for it. And this time, the Virals’ special powers may not be enough to dig them out of trouble...

" This book is enormous fun...and it's full of the adventure that so many of my kids crave. I am recommending this one to fans of Theodore Boone...Reichs and Grisham are masters of suspense and adventure, and their skills are not lost on young readers. This is the second in a series; the first one reads a little rough at first (most likely NOT the author's hand in the first couple of chapters), but it's rewarding soon enough. "

" I really enjoy Kathy's style of writing. Her new Virals adventure was excellent, although I did put it aside for a while. Got caught up with other books & projects. But once I picked it up again, I devoured the rest of the book. I liked how the villian is an unexpected twist to the story. The evolvement & enlightenment of the characters really brings them to life. I'm really hoping that Kathy has another adventure for the Virals, as I would like to follow them growing up into adults. "

" I loved this book just as much as the first, this time it's pirate treasure and you never really know who the culprit is, if she's even alive. Solving mysteries of the past and present, so much fun. "

" It was great. Kathy Reichs is an artist in choosing her words. In parts she made me feel claustrophobic and in others I barely breathed. Kathy should be congratulated on her great work, as I know she doesn't usually write young adult. I cannot wait to read the next one! "

About the Author
Author Kathy ReichsKathy Reichs is the author of more than twenty New York Times bestselling novels featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, including her most recent The Bone Collection. Reichs’s own life, as much as her novels, is the basis for the TV show Bones, one of the longest-running series in the history of the FOX network.
