"My students absolutely love this book. It's up for the Colorado Children's Book Award and got the most votes from my school. I should love this book. I liked the book. I enjoyed the premise that members of the Baumont family get their savvy, magical power, when they turn 13. Each received a different power, a unique skill that the person had to learn to control. Mibs Baumont goes on an exciting adventure with her two brothers and eventual friends to find and save her father. Law creates interesting characters and a pleasant story. I wish it captured me more than it did. I will read Scumble, so it did excite me enough to want to read more."

— Nemon, 2/16/2014" Fabulous book for a young reader--middle school age. I was not sucked into the plot, but the characters and their "magical" powers were fascinating. A girl who can hear people's tatoos talking--what's not to like about that? "
— Jenn, 2/3/2014" I really liked the story of the Beaumont family and their quirky powers that they discover on their thirteenth birthday! It is a story of love of family, the importance of good friends and enduring to the end if something is right. Great story! "
— Cass, 1/25/2014" I read this with my daughter and its a wonderful preteen book about a girl discovering her savvy-a supernatural power but also discovering growing up. "
— Leta, 1/3/2014" The book was quick to catch my interest but it had some slower parts in the middle. Maybe I was just having a sleepy day, but it got slowish for a while. The author uses interesting language and the characters are all enjoyable (and sometimes strange). I like how the story wrapped up. I would have given it 4 stars, because it probably does deserve that many, but for me I just "liked it." "
— Kenzee, 1/3/2014" I think this chapter book would be better for older students. I would say somewhere around middle school. It's a good book about adventure and how Mibs will find her Savvy. "
— Glenn, 12/29/2013" I didn't like this book at all, my teacher made us read this and it was pretty bad. I was gone for a whole week and when I got back I still understood what was going on!!!!Bad sign for a book! "
— Savannah, 12/16/2013" I really enjoyed this book. It would work really well for a read aloud or even just a fun read for upper elementary or middle schoolers. I love the heart the main character Mibs has, truly demonstrates courage and spirit when faced with some of life's challenges. "

— Jamie, 11/12/2013" While I read this one after its sequel, Scumble, I really enjoyed it. It's a lovely story of family and cooperation, with delightufl characters who are just flawed enough. I highly recommend the series to all, especially those looking for an entertaining adventure. "
