Fellow orphans, amateur vigilantes, and members of the Santitos, Loup Garron—the fugitive daughter of a genetically engineered "wolf-man"—and Pilar Ecchevarria spent their entire lives under military occupation in a cordoned off Texas no-man's-land that used to be called Santa Olivia, now known as Outpost 12.
But now they're free, and they want to help the rest of the Santitos escape. During a series of escapades, they discover that Miguel Garza, Loup's former sparring partner and reprobrate surrogate brother, has escaped from Outpost 12 and is testifying on behalf of its forgotten citizens—at least until he disappears from protective custody. Driven by a sense of honor, Loup vows to rescue Miguel, even though venturing into the U.S. could mean losing her liberty. Driven by love and loyalty, Pilar promises to help her.
It will take a daring and absurd caper to extricate Miguel from the mess he's created, but Loup is prepared to risk everything...and this time she has help.

"Finished this book and LOVED it! I'm so glad she continued from where the last one left off... Thoroughly enjoyed the story and love between Pilar and Loup, plus the ending was wonderful. Although there is room for more of the story, she did also provide a very satisfying ending as well. :-)"

“Carey follows 2009’s Santa Olivia with another lively tale of postpandemic America…Loup and Pilar’s sweet, genuine relationship will draw in new readers and satisfy returning fans.”
— Publishers Weekly“A must-read for fans of Santa Olivia.”
— Booklist" It's my first book by this author and its an interesting Sopranos/Charlie's Angels/X-women lesbian couple. But what the heck is with the 'baby' 'baby' every time Pilar speaks to Loup? Major puke! And the 'They ordered dinner and then they f----ed'. End of chapter. Oh these shoes look so good on you, ok let's f----. End of chapter. My god, get over it and out of the book woman! The book gets a bit normal in the later chapters and there's a happily ever after, which is why I give it a three star. If you can survive the first part of the book with all the babying and closing each chapter with a f---ing part, the second part of the book is okay. "
— Shobha, 2/15/2014" I really love this. It's a fun romp of a YA novel and its nice to read a novel with a lesbian couple. Of course it helps that this is a weird combination of Zorro and Johnny Quest :) It's probably going on my to-buy list. "
— Marlie, 2/15/2014" Did you know that Loup and Pilar love each other? Because OMG they tooootally do. Like, so much. "
— Jenne, 2/2/2014" I am a longtime Jacqueline Carey fan, and I found this book really hard to get through. Annoying, whiny characters and no real narrative or plot. This is one series I hope she lets lie. "
— Laural, 1/25/2014" I honestly have a hard time believing Jacqueline Carey wrote this. The level and quality I have come to expect from her writing was not demonstrated in this book in any way. "
— Ashley, 1/23/2014" Not at good as the first. This felt much more young adult, with no real tension. Nothing ever seemed at stake, unlike the first which had some nail-biting moments. This really felt teeny-bopper, and was a disappointing conclusion. "
— Wes, 1/14/2014" J.C. never disappoints; I'll read ANYthing this woman publishes. "
— AJ, 1/13/2014" Continuing the story from the first book. You need to read Santa Olivia first. "
— Gary, 1/1/2014" see mycogds.wordpress.com for full review. "
— Amy, 12/23/2013" Adorable teens in love, no pesky plot to keep track of, all loose ends wrapped up from the first book. Perfectly enjoyable. "
— Joy, 12/11/2013" Very disappointing. I skimmed the last half of the book. "
— Kim, 12/4/2013" I did not enjoy this book as well as the first. Santa Olivia was mostly captivating. You could really feel for the characters. Saints Astray seemed like it was written more at a young teenage level of reader. "
— Cheryl, 12/17/2012" Another wonderful book by Jacqueline Carey. Different from her Kushiel series, and Naamah series. "
— Jodi, 12/16/2012" I really enjoyed the first book, but had lukewarm feelings on this one. I thought the dialogue could have been better written. "
