The land of Terre d'Ange is a place of unsurpassed beauty and grace. It is said that angels found the land and saw it was good...and the ensuing race that rose from the seed of angels and men live by one simple rule: Love as thou wilt. Phèdre nó Delaunay is a woman pricked by Kushiel's Dart, chosen to forever experience pain and pleasure as one. Her path has been strange and dangerous, and through it all the devoted swordsman Joscelin has been at her side. Her very nature is a torturous thing for them both, but he is sworn to her and he has never violated his vow: to protect and serve. But Phèdre's plans put Joscelin's pledge to the test, for she has never forgotten her childhood friend Hyacinthe. She has spent ten long years searching for the key to free him from his eternal indenture, a bargain he struck with the gods—to take Phèdre's place as a sacrifice and save a nation. Phèdre cannot forgive—herself or the gods. She is determined to seize one last hope to redeem her friend, even if it means her death. The search will bring Phèdre and Joscelin across the world, to distant courts where madness reigns and souls are currency, and down a fabled river to a land forgotten by most of the world. And to a power so mighty that none dare speak its name.

"I'm glad I'm rereading this series. It's been long enough I have only key images from the series in my head, but not plot details. I enjoy Carey's writing, even if this one got pretty dark in places. Still, she's created a fully-realized and unique world for her characters to inhabit, and I like visiting."
— Perdita-x (4 out of 5 stars)
“Carey’s lush, sensuous prose again makes her heroine’s story a savory feast for mind and heart.”
— Booklist (starred review)“Effortlessly rich in adventurous incident, with a huge cast of well-defined characters, this poignant and robust story will appeal to both fantasy lovers and fans of erotic romance.”
— Publishers WeeklyA rousing finale to an altogether captivating saga.
— Kirkus" AMAZING!!!!! An absolute must read! Kushiel's Legacy is an amazing series. The first trilogy was one of the best series I've read. "
— Shawn, 2/16/2014" a very fitting ending. not all trilogies come to such satisfying conclusions. "
— Elena, 2/6/2014" Enjoyed this drawing various threads together but leaving enough to be interested in where the next books will evolve "
— Alanya, 12/31/2013" Finally, the story arc of Phedre and Joscelin comes to a close. Whew! what a ride! "
— Peggy, 12/24/2013" I love this series and this writer. I can't wait to read more of her series work. "
— Jami, 11/6/2013" This was my favorite of the series. The characters are so well developed by this point that the story can just run. Ms. Carey plays the plot well, torturing the reader with grief for the characters but without making one want to throw the book away and give up. "
— Valerie, 8/16/2013" This one made me wince a lot more than the previous one, but this time the main character is older, wiser, and way more in control of her desire. I'm just going to go on the record as saying for a courtesan, she has the...most...ridiculous...life ever. "
— Priya, 8/7/2013" Bilbo Baggins aint got nothing on Phedre no Delauny. I can't really say enough about this trilogy, and this is a fitting ending. These books are why I love to read. "
— Matt, 5/9/2013" Smartly written, mid-evil, and very erotic. This is a great series if you read at about a college level. I could not move on beyond the first initial books, because the narration shifts from woman to man, not nearly as captivating by my way of thinking. "
— John, 5/6/2013" I decided to reread this series I can't believe how much happens in each book. I remember some of it but there was much more that was like reading it for the first time:)An excellent book! "
— Natasha, 5/2/2013" This is the first book of the trilogy that I thoroughly enjoyed as I found the first two just OK. "
— Dana, 3/23/2013" Wow, an author who manages to end a series stronger than it started- and it started bloody strong! I love this series. "
— Carolyn, 6/29/2012" Definitely the most exciting book of the trilogy. Really completes the series. Much darker but also explores deeper character traits. Phedre's role and purpose as an Anguisette is explored. Not just a plaything of the rich but called to a grater purpose by her gods. "
— Celestemycelestial.com, 3/3/2012" I was sad the series was coming to an end, but happy to find out one of the characters moves on for at least another three books. Interested to see what those hold, and if some of the characters from the first three books are in them. "
— Amy, 2/24/2012" This last book in the series of Phedre's story was rather epic and covered quite a bit of ground, I recall feeling like the story covered the globe. It was a very satisfying and surprising ending. "
— Mina, 9/4/2011" I skip a big chunk of this one--but I keep it in the rotation. Such a satisfactory ending. "
— Shamela, 7/22/2011" Finishing a series like the Kushiel trilogy is both satisfying and a little heartbreaking and makes me ridiculously glad that Imri's trilogy is waiting to be read. "
— Nazarea, 12/1/2010" It is starting nice again. She is almost my age now. Let's see what it brings. "
— Fraeulein, 10/8/2010" an excellent series. Very dense, very intense...not for the faint of heart, although I think the reviewed emphasis on the erotica and S&M are a bit overstated. Compared to, say Christine Feehan or some others I can think of, her stuff is fairly mild. "
— Holly, 6/13/2010" Entertaining but a lot of inappropriate stuff. I do not reccomend it to readers who do not want to read about sexual situations. "
— Annette, 3/10/2010" Could't get thru this one - SLOW I think I got to page 30 before giving up. Maybe I will try again some other time when I'm out of books to read "
