In this third and final Ralph S. Mouse novel from Newbery Medal–winning author Beverly Cleary, Ralph heads to school to see what humans do all day . . . and to discover what the ""S"" in Ralph S. Mouse stands for!
With his rowdy cousins constantly wearing out his motorcycle and the Mountain View Inn manager threatening to take care of the mouse infestation once and for all, Ralph decides it's time to get away for a while. He convinces his human friend Ryan to take him along to school, where Ralph instantly becomes the center of attention.
But when Ryan's class decides to see how smart Ralph is by making him run a maze, the usually confident mouse starts to fret. What if he's not as clever as he thought?
Ralph S. Mouse is perfect for independent reading or for shared reading at home or in a classroom. This fun story is the third of a trilogy, along with The Mouse and the Motorcycle and Runaway Ralph, all inspired by the author's hope to create appealing books for boys and girls—and by the sight of her son playing with toy cars.

"The kids loved this story! Ralph gets to go to school with his new hotel friend, Ryan. Ralph ends up being seen by another girl in the class, which starts the class out on a big project: The Great Mouse Exhibition! There are all kinds of side adventures along the way, including an accident that breaks Ralph's Motorcycle! Oh No! Now what will the famous mouse do?? Very cute little book for kids who like little adventures of talking animals."

“Will capture children’s hearts and imaginations…Takes readers into a fantastic world, where it is easy to believe that an enterprising mouse can really ride a motorcycle.”
— Children’s Literature" Hooray for another fiction book that my 8-year-old boy liked well enough to read chapters on his own. :) "
— Shannon, 2/15/2014" I thought this was a cute book. I'm glad my Jenny and my girlfriend recommended it to me. I was really disappointed after reading The Tale of Despereaux it was good to read a cute story about a mouse. "
— Melissa, 2/12/2014" The book was probably the weakest of the three, but the ending was very sweet. A great series with memorable characters. "
— beth, 2/9/2014" Very fun book to read with your kids. I read it to my 2 year old son and he really enjoyed the story about silly Ralph S. Mouse. We look forward to borrowing other books about Ralph from the library and I've added the series of 3 books to his wish list for Christmas and birthday. "
— Ashley, 2/1/2014" Ellie: this book was great. My favorite character was Ralph because he got a car. I didn't like brad because he was mean. The best part of the book was when Ryan got Brad for his brother. "
— Tiffany, 1/29/2014" I listened to the audio-book, and the narrator made Ralph sound like a thug from Brooklyn...which is not what I imagined him to sound like. I probably would have liked it better if I would have read it myself. "
— Keely, 1/29/2014" I read the series to my youngest. Together we enjoyed Ralph's adventures. This book didn't disappoint. Ralph has a need for adventure and the desire to drive fast vehicles/motorcycles. In this book he "goes to school" with the boy who lives in his hotel. He learns many things and also teaches the students a few things. Beverly Cleary is always a great read with the kids. "
— Suzi, 1/20/2014" My boys enjoyed this. Ralph is a spunky character and had us laughing throughout the book. "
— Carolyn, 1/19/2014" Read out loud to the children. Decent story but not especially memorable or gripping. "
— David, 1/12/2014" Finally finished this with the kids - I think it was their least favorite of the three (until the end, anyway) because the main character, Ryan, wan't very likeable. Anyway, cute trilogy by Cleary, who's written such great kids' classics. On to Ramona! :) "
— Julie, 1/12/2014" The edition that I own is the chapter version ... Great chapter book for younger readers. One book that my daughters have enjoyed. "
— Beckey, 12/19/2013" loved this when I was younger, and Jayci is loving this now "
— Staci, 12/1/2013" My favorite of all 3. Cute!!! "
— Vixenfur, 11/30/2013" I thought Ralph was an interesting character, but overall I didn't relate to him as much as when Ms. Cleary writes realistic fiction. "
— Swankivy, 11/26/2013" Not as good as the others. There just wasn't as much fun in this book. I felt it was a rehash of the second book where Ralph is stuck somewhere again without his motorcycle. I did like the ending though. "
— jacky, 11/25/2013" This is about a mouse who lived in the school and he had a motorcycle. I would use this book in the classroom to help the studnets understand that there is people that will help other people when there is different parts. I would also explain how to help people. "
— Amber, 10/26/2013" I'm down with Ralph. "
— Melissa, 8/16/2013" I loved it. It wasn't as good as the Mouse and the Motorcycle. "
— Magdalene, 8/1/2013" This book is cute for kids and I enjoyed it enough. I've never read any of the other Ralph books but it got some of my students checking out the other Ralph books. "
— Krystal, 5/19/2013" Another book I loved from my "mouse literature" days. "
— Vinnie, 5/9/2013" Read aloud with the 5 year old. "
— Nicole, 4/19/2013" I thought the book was good and cool I would "
— Jenacee, 12/22/2012" This was maddie's favorite of the Ralph the Mouse series. Here favorite part was when Ralph got the sports car, and was able to ride around in it. Maddie is disappointed that there are not anymore Ralph books. "
— Mike, 11/8/2011" I listened to this on CD with my 4 year old. He hasn't been very interested in me reading him chapter books but he lived listening to this. "
— Kristen, 7/23/2011" What a good book - gives me warm fuzzies. "
— Kim, 7/21/2011" I liked this story but I liked the mouse and the motorcycle even more. "
— Christine, 7/4/2011" It seems that old lovable mouse Ralph has got himself a new set of wheels and is bound to cause some chaos. The problem is that it takes him some time to learn how to ride but when he does watch out. Wanna find out what happens? Then read the book if the answer is yes. "
— Samir, 6/27/2011" I loved it!!!! I thought it was so good. "
— Alexis, 6/23/2011" I liked this book because it was different and it was a cute story. If anyone knows of the movie Runaway Ralph, I think the movie is a sequel to this book. This book was a bit slow at first, but it really started to pick up the pace and it kept my attention. "
— Brianna, 6/17/2011" Loved reading this to my first graders. "
— My, 6/16/2011" I likes it but thought it was still a little boring at some parts! "

— Sarah, 4/28/2011" Very cool. A mouse driving toy cars: I WANNA BE THAT MOUSE!!!!!:-) "
— Dog, 4/25/2011" I thought that this was a very goof book about sharing and the friendship of a boy and a mouse. Following your dreams would also be a good theme for this book and I feel as though it was an easy read with a good message. I would recommend it! "
— Sammy, 4/25/2011Beverly Cleary (1916–2021) was an American author of highly acclaimed fiction for children and young adults, including the Henry Huggins series, Ramon Quimby series, stand-alone novels, picture books, and two memoirs. Some of her many awards include the Newbery Medal, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, and the National Medal of Arts. She was born in McMinnville, Oregon, and lived on a farm in Yamhill, a town so small it had no library. Her mother arranged to have books sent to their tiny town from the state library and acted as a librarian in a room over a bank. It was there that she learned to love books. Generations of children have grown up with Ramona Quimby, Henry Huggins, Ralph Mouse, and all of their friends, families, and assorted pets. Her books continue to capture the hearts and imaginations of children of all ages throughout the world.
