Discipline. Penance. Order. A Sanctuary priest's life revolves around
such things. But when Sagan is taken captive and thrust into the Alaskan
wilderness, he encounters a woman who challenges his faith and his
self-control. Valera is a natural born witch who almost lost herself to
the lure of dark magic. By rights, Sagan should shun her, but convention
will count for nothing in the face of a passion that could change the
world of the Shadowdwellers forever . . .
As Chancellor of the
Shadowdwellers, Malaya's first duty is to her people. Her bodyguard,
Guin, knows this only too well. For tradition's sake, Malaya must marry,
and the thought of this lush, vibrant, woman in a loveless union is
impossible for him to bear. Guin loves Malaya—not as a subject loves
his queen, but as a man craves a woman. And even if he cannot keep her,
he'll show her everything she stands to lose . . .

"This is book 3 in the Shadowdwellers series but it's actually 2 stories in one book. The first 100 pages is a novella about Sagan finding his mate and the remaining 230 pages is a novel about Malaya, the Shadowdweller Princess/Queen finding her mate. Ms Frank knows how to write a hot paranormal romance, that's for sure. Both stories have everything we've come to expect - action, adventure, intrigue (political in this case), hot sex, romance, and a little giggle here and there. I have to say that I don't like Malaya - a cluless almost shrewish woman - but I don't think that we were supposed to like her. This was published in 2009 and there haven't been any other Shadowdweller books so this is only a trilogy."

Frank exercises her own unique brand of spicy sensuality and blends it seamlessly into the dangerous political drama. Passion, intrigue and betrayal mix it up for devastating results!
— Romantic Times" I have read this entire series (Nightwalker and Shadowdweller) and this book was such a disappointment! I got the distinct impression that the author had no desire to finish the series (the villain was killed & no new one given and neither Amazon nor the authors website gives any information on another book in the series but touts a completely new series and world of books starting up soon) and crammed the last two story lines into one book. She failed to give each of them the attention they deserved: the first story was too short, rushed, and failed to wrap up all open ties and the second story was also rushed and the ending occurred too quickly, especially with a build up taking two books for the villain. I hope she eventually comes back to this series/world with the attention it deserves and she showed in the previous seven books. "
— Rhianna, 2/12/2014" Even though I have not read any of the other books in this series, I picked up on the story pretty easily. This is actually 2 stories that come together at the end of the second. I liked them both. The first was very short and introduced a new character into this world. The second was about the relationship between the Queen Malaya and her bodyguard Guinn. Even though he was in the more subservient position, he still managed to be in charge. It was an interesting switch. I really like the way the author uses language and I like her worldbuilding. It is an interesting storyline she has created. "
— Leslie, 2/10/2014" I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It provided a perfect mixture of mystery, violence & passion. The "short story" at the beginning was funny and showed love in a short time-span. Guin was raw and Malaya showed wisdom and that even those thought to be perfect can make mistakes. The appearance of all the characters from the previous books was awesome! There was even a moment of agony that I cried through. This was a fantastic read! "
— Danielle, 1/24/2014" OK....I had one BIG pet peeve in this one....I wanted MORE MORE MORE of Sagan and Val's story! I loved their story and then it suddenly switched over to Guin and Malayla....not that I didn't LOVE Guin and Laya, but I so wanted more of Sagan and Val too!! Wish they had their own book! Anyway - another good read that I enjoyed. A far cry from the YA Paranormal Fiction! ;) "
— Jen, 1/23/2014" Definitely the best in series, so far. The story was interesting and the chemistry was sizzling. Great read. "
— *Kyhm*, 1/23/2014" I felt like the author could go on with the series for a few more books. The story line was a little hard to follow, unlike her first 2 books in the series. "
— Susan, 1/11/2014" One of the best books I've read in a while!! Loved Malaya and Quin and the unexpected twists and turns "
— Suz, 1/8/2014" This series was great!!! It kept me interested from the start to finish!! It was very HOT!!!! "
— Tasha, 12/28/2013" La La La.... See my review of Ecstasy! "
— Katie, 12/4/2013" I enjoyed this but I wouldn't have split up the two stories like she did. I would have like to have seen them intertwined. "
— Wendi, 12/1/2013" Although I enjoyed Malaya's story, I felt Sagan's story could have been more developed, although at least she tied them together at the end. "
— Greta, 11/15/2013" Jacquelyn Frank is an excellent writer. This book is just as captivating as the first. I would recommend it to everyone. If you liked reading the first in this series, you are definately going to like the second and third. Enjoy!! "
— Amanda, 11/13/2013" I'd give it a 4.5 star if I could. The first 100 pages of this book is about Sagan. The story was very rushed and the characters had no connection in my opinion. Then we finally got to Guin and Malaya's story, now there is a connection!!! Great love story for those 2... "
— Teri, 10/17/2013" Probably the second best of the series...all the books after this one seem to lose steam. "
— Kristin, 10/7/2013" Sagan, my Sagan. Hot, sexy, straight-forward and Strong characters in the story throughtout. I think Valera our heroine could have been a bit more developed. Guin and Malaya, oh my god, awesomme match. The hotheadedness and the fights perfect foreplay. Gotta love Guin! "
— Annarwen, 10/3/2013" I didn't like the two book cut down. I was all excited to read this book, got it home, realized I'd just been jacked, and this colored the way I felt reading both stories. It was a disapointment. "
— Jenny, 8/15/2013" LOVED THIS ONE!!! What a treat too. Two for one.. Ms. Frank gives us Sagan and Val in the first short story and then Malaya and Guin in the second full length story. Five stars for Sagan and 4.5 for Malaya.. Best book of the series by far... Now on to Hunting Julian. Yea!!!! "
— Joyce, 3/10/2013" If I could give this book more stars I would! Love Jacquelyn Frank! "
— Ta-Tanisha, 12/28/2012" Loved this and would write more but am on my phone ;). But now I want more. Want to know more of what will happen in the shadowdweller world. "
