Agatha Award-winning author Anne George deftly blends comedy and suspense in her engaging series. Retired school teacher Patricia Anne has a knack for landing right in the middle of murder investigations, but this time she is fighting to clear the accused. Patricia Anne has been good friends with her neighbor Mitzi for 40 years. She's surprised when she sees Mitzi's husband Arthur having lunch at the Hunan Hut with an attractive woman. She's positively shocked when that same woman drops dead moments later. Then Arthur is accused of murder, their home catches fire, and he gets shot in the butt. Patricia Anne knows she has to do something to help the poor man. That means enlisting the aid of her flamboyant sister Mary Alice for a little detective work. Anne George's gentle humor combined with a cast of colorful characters make Murder Shoots the Bull a delight. Ruth Anne Phimister's sparkling narration is full of Southern charm.

"I love this Southern Sister's" series; the relationships between the characters is so sweet and funny. The sister's have love and acceptance for each other, but over-coated with some snippiness and light sarcasm. The entertwining of their families is an enmeshment that enriches all their lives."
— Janice (4 out of 5 stars)
“This light, amusing romp of a mystery makes good use of the tradition of Southern eccentricity, exuding a properly cozy atmosphere and a nifty web of subplots and domestic complications.”
— Publishers Weekly" Funny, witty author. All of the books in this series are great. "
— Jill, 2/9/2014" Another fun read in the Southern Sisters Mystery series. I did not enjoy this one quite as much as the previous books in the series though. The characters involved in the actual mystery and their relationships were hard to follow and the ending was a little too thrown together for me. I still enjoyed the relations ship between Mary Alice and Patricia Anne and will be finishing up the series soon. "
— Wendy, 2/9/2014" I got it from the library. Surprise ending. Good who-dunnit. "
— Cherri, 2/3/2014" A good quick summer mystery read. "
— Sue, 1/19/2014" Those sisters are so funny! "
— Andrea, 1/19/2014" This is a humorous book. It was fun reading. I haven't read any other of the Southern sisters mysteries. "
— Francine, 1/17/2014" Easy to read, laugh out loud mystery. "
— Charlynn, 1/13/2014" The mystery of the killer's identity in this one had me going a bit longer than some. ...read with Mom. We enjoyed it. "
— Ann, 1/4/2014" Murder Shoots the Bull: A Southern Sisters Mystery (Southern Sisters Mysteries) by Anne George (2000) "
— Julie, 12/23/2013" This author died a few years ago and I thought I had read all of her books, but I found this one the other day at the library. I was happy. It's a light read with humor throughout. A little more swearing than I recall, although it's old(er) lady swearing. "
— Grace, 12/23/2013" I liked the zany sisters a lot more than I expected to. I enjoyed the mystery and appreciated the banter between several of the characters. The dialogue was lively and realistic. The mystery was complicated enough to keep my interest. "
— Grey853, 12/21/2013" This was a good one. The sisters get involved with an investment club. But more involving is Mouse's long time neigbors are considered as suspects in the murder of the first wife. Things get scary with fires and shootings. In the meantime there is no peace in the family for one of the sisters. "
— Jane, 12/3/2013" A great series, lots of humor. "
— Vicky, 11/27/2013" For my review of the series, see Murder on a Girls' Night Out. "
— Rob, 10/26/2013" I have just loved reading this series. So sad that I only have two more to go. Sister and Mouse always give me plenty of laughs and a mystery to boot! "
— Kelly, 8/24/2013" This is one of the best mystery series I have ever read. Love the characters Mary Alice and Patricia Ann. They are funny! This is the 6th book in the Southern Sisters mystery series. "
— Glenda, 8/21/2013" I read these books on audio books and the neatest thing about that is the reader uses different voices for each character (accents and all) and it makes it so lifelike. Very fun books with a little sarcasm between the sisters (in a very funny way.) I love these books. "
— Doris, 3/15/2013" A fun little mystery that's relaxing to read! Didn't think it deserves 4 stars but it's good enough that I will read her series now. "
— Kay, 3/15/2013" I still enjoy reading about these characters, sisters who live in Birmingham, and their families and friends, what they are eating and doing with their time, since retiring. "
— Patty, 2/10/2013" I really enjoy books that make me laugh out loud while I'm reading them. Between the Vulcan statue mooning all of Birmingham and the "accidental" bump into the tree, this book left in stitches. Now must read the earlier books in the series. "
— Lisa, 2/5/2013" It all started with a call from Patricia Annes neighbor Mitzi about joining an investment group. But when Mitzis husband is charged with murdering his first wife. And then their house is set on fire and he gets shot. Its up to Patricia anne and Mary Alice to solve the crime. "

— Vicky, 1/28/2013" Think I'll have to find some more books by this author; sad to hear she died in 2001. Definitely some humor here, and lots of little twists. "
