"I read this to mother and even though it was not easy to follow we enjoyed parts of the book. She laughed at the right places but I could tell it wasn't a favorite. I enjoyed it, but it does deal with a family when someone dies."
— Betty (4 out of 5 stars)
“Evocative, often lyrical, and some of the shorter chapters read almost like prose poems.”
— Chicago Tribune“A novel about a dysfunctional Southern family [in the tradition of] such Southern opuses as The Prince of Tides and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.”
— Houston Chronicle“Drawing on her poetic roots, George’s assured, soft Southern prose is full of symbolism and lyrical phrases, with much stargazing, Greek mythology, and rising and setting suns to infuse the homey story with a mystical aura.”
— Publishers Weekly“This poignant and bittersweet novel is a pleasure to read and shows great promise from an already proven writer.”
— Library Journal" I love Anne George. Great voice. "
— Carrie, 1/8/2014" I loved every character in this story. The writing was stellar; I envisioned every scene and felt like I was living next door to the family right on the Bay. Definitely will check out what else this writer has written. "
— Katie, 12/31/2013" A wonderful story, the last book written during this author's terminal illness. This book moved me. "

— Nancy, 8/13/2013" This is a story of a southern family in Alabama that is brought together by death. It was really a different read from Anne George's southern sisters mysteries. I would call this a psychological type book. It was not my favorite but I will admit it was interesting. "
— Madelyn, 6/17/2013" I loved this book! I keep going back to it as it makes me think of my childhood and the South that I both remember and have heard stories about all my life. "
— Mary, 1/16/2013" This small Southern novel was a satisfying read- Clyde Edgerton without the humor or a feminine Pat Conroy. Odd narrative perspective but interesting. Vividly descriptive that evoked the South of my memory. "
— Debdanz, 1/16/2013" A beautiful novel by Anne George - but quite a departure from her southern sisters Murder series "
— Rizzmom, 1/14/2013" Thankfully, THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION. (I was hoping it was Anne Carroll George's autobiography.) "
— Gypsy, 1/3/2013" Want to be there for Mobile Bay jubilee! "
— Pam, 12/24/2012" Got this at the library. Not my kind of book. Could not relate to seeing and talking to the dead. "
— Diane, 7/31/2012" A great Southern novel set in Alabama near Grand Hotel/Fairhope...I'm a sucker for Southern lit! "
