Anne George's novels offer a delightful mix of gentle comedy and compelling mystery. Murder Runs in the Family finds two feisty 60-something sisters doing a little amateur sleuthing into the death of a visiting genealogist. Mary Alice has spared no expense for her daughter's wedding. Two days after the glittering affair, Mary Alice and Patricia Anne are spending a fascinating lunch listening to the groom's cousin explain the 'dog-eat-dog" world of professional genealogy. Minutes later they are shocked to learn that the genteel woman they were just speaking with has fallen from a courthouse window. Determined to get to the bottom of things, Patricia Anne soon finds herself enmeshed in a world where proud old families are willing to kill to keep their ancestor's dirty laundry from being aired. Full of good clean fun, Anne George's novels deliver nonstop suspense tempered with light-hearted laughs and a cast of quirky characters. Ruth Ann Phimister's rollicking narration perfectly captures both the love of family and iron will of these two Southern ladies.

"Anne George is the writer I wish to be. I've read all her books and thoroughly enjoy them. I grew up in the neighborhood that are in most of her books. It is great fun to read her descriptions of the area and know exactly the location. Plus I worked at Samford University for 23 years and know the ladies in the genealogy dept of Davis Library. The books are hard to obtain but can be found at second hand stores. I give them to people that need a little laughter and uplifting."

“Phimister enhances George's resplendent characters, giving them a vivacity that makes this a highly entertaining whodunit.”
— AudioFile" I read all of the books in this series years ago. Really enjoying listening to them now. Phimister captures Patricia Anne's voice perfectly. For their genre (cozy murder mystery), I give all the books in this series 5 stars. Maybe it's because I'm southern and can relate to the setting and characters. "
— Nlangham, 10/17/2016" These books just get better each time. "
— Mark, 2/20/2014" This is a light-hearted mystery with likeable main characters - southern sisters Patricia Ann & Mary Alice get involved in a geneologist murder. Good dialogue. Some humor. I have read other in this series & will read more. "
— Mary, 2/20/2014" Genealogy plays a big part in this cute little mystery. So of course, it is the favorite of all I've read by Anne George! "
— Kay, 2/16/2014" Third in the Southern Sisters cozy mystery series - it is helpful to begin with Murder on a Girls Night Out as an introduction to the series and the characters (retired school teacher and her older sister). The characters and the mystery are classic Anne George in their Southern-style humor and well-laid out plot (the breadcrumbs left don't make it a complete surprise). The genealogy twist is nice but the story is beginning to feel dated (DOS computing references may puzzle any younger readers who come across this title and accessibility to Ancestry.com and other modern resources deflate the mystery a bit as well). I'm going to try #4 in audio based on enthusiastic reviews here for the narrator. "
— Pr, 2/11/2014" Another good book from Anne George. I really do like this series of books. I will be sad when I read the last book. "
— Dawn, 1/31/2014" Audio version. Definitely liking this one better than the first two. The mystery is stronger and the characters are really growing on me. Love the humor between the two sisters and also seeing the other family members progressing through each book. Fun series. Definitely 4 stars "
— Wanderer, 1/22/2014" I enjoyed this. It was my first anne george. The characters were a little superficial. I must admit, though, that I think I know several women who fit this description to a tee... and they all live in Bham. It was fun to read a book with this setting. It made me miss Bham. "
— Donna, 1/21/2014" The Southern Sisters strike again! Irreverent and funny with a touch of sadness, Anne George's mysteries are satisfying on many levels. "
— Laura, 1/13/2014" Cute book! Read for book club and it was entertaining with a fun Southern flavor. "
— Cathy, 1/8/2014" More fun with Patricia Ann and MAry Alice. This series is funny and I wish I was friends with these two southern ladies,..really. This book is number 3 in the series. I plan to read them all. "
— Glenda, 1/6/2014" Pleasant, easy read. I did like the genealogy part of the story. I hadn't heard that in a murder mystery before. "
— Kristie, 12/24/2013" I actually didn't think I'd like it, but I did. It's not one I'd listen to again. "
— Odetta, 12/5/2013" You can read my thoughts here. "
— Joy, 10/29/2013" A great series, lots of humor. "
— Vicky, 10/26/2013" This mystery series is one of my guilty pleasures. Silly, obvious, a little too cute--but totally fun. I read them because my secret ambition is to live in Birmingham. "
— Debbie, 10/25/2013" Liked this one a lot. "
— Heidi, 10/9/2013" Light, fun and entertaining. Amy - you would like the "southern" flavor - its setting is Birmingham, Alabmama. "
— Vera, 9/17/2013" I am from the South and my sisters and I talk just like Sister and Mouse. This series makes me smile. It's the perfect quick read. "
— Linda, 9/3/2013" Delightful mystery featuring two quarrelsome but lovable sisters. Read by Ruthann Phimister. "
— Pithee, 8/30/2013" Just love these two sisters. This about betrayal, infidelity, and revenge. The story centers around geneologists and their discoveries. Again the sisterly banter is laugh out loud funny. "
— Jane, 8/23/2013" Love the relationship between the southern sisters. "
— Nancy, 7/12/2013" I read this book when I was in a book club when we lived in Anniston, AL probably 6 years ago. It was a cute book. It was also quite funny. I read a few more of the books by Anne George thereafter. "
— Shelley, 6/20/2013" This is a cute book, but not a series I would pick up. I think it would be a great book club book for older women. "
— Kae, 6/14/2013" Still fun--there are a lot of common things, which I won't share. "
— Patty, 1/29/2013" I love these crazy ladies, I always wanted a sister to harass and to spend my days with in the manner that these two do. "
— Heidi, 12/22/2012" some lines made me laugh . "
— Nomad, 12/10/2012" sexual innuendo, and some mild swearing. Two 60 something sisters happen on a mystery by accident. Apparently, they do that a lot. They are funny and cute. "
— Audry, 11/26/2012" Good old-fashioned southern chick lit with a bit of a murder going on... perfect fot reading while enjoying the sun... "
— Patty, 11/19/2012" #3 in the Southern Sisters series. Meg, a genealogist fakes her own death, to cover-up the subsequent murder of her former husband Judge Bobby Haskins & frames fellow family-tree professional Gerogiana Peach. Love the Southern Sisters. "
