Everyday life is so frantic and full of troubles that we have largely forgotten how to live a joyful existence. We try so hard to be happy that we often end up missing the most important parts of our lives. In Mindfulness, Oxford professor Mark Williams and award-winning journalist Danny Penman reveal the secrets to living a happier and less anxious, stressful, and exhausting life.

Based on the techniques of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, the unique program developed by Williams and his colleagues, this book offers simple and straightforward forms of mindfulness meditation that can be done by anyone and it can take just 10 to 20 minutes a day for the full benefits to be revealed.

" Don't you people realize that mindfulness is SO the hot new thing? So go out and get yo'self some!!! "

" I highly recommend this book to anyone who suffers from any kind of depression. It is written by a man who used mindfulness training to help chronic pain patients at the University of Massachusetts and published his successful results. If you aren't interested in the religious aspects of mindfulness this book is good because it only covers the process from a practical viewpoint - leaves out the buddhist dogma. I've found it to be extremely helpful. The book comes with a cd of guided exercises which makes it a lot easier to practice the meditations. I'm going to check out his chronic pain stuff next. "

" Recommended by several people, it helped me understand the concepts of mindfulness, acceptance, and meditation. It was fairly engaging and very easy to understand. I look forward to implementing these concepts in my life and see if they help me keep a better perspective in life. "

" Good eight-week program for starting a meditation practice. The authors base their plan on Jon Kabat-Zinn's work on mindfulness, but add their own ideas. The key of example I noticed was their chapter/week on turning toward difficulties. They still focused on sensations but kept the difficulty in mind rather than bring the focus back to the breath. I will read this book again. "

" It took me quite a while to get through this book, but it was well worth it. It makes you 'stop and smell the roses', so to speak. Reading this has helped me see depression for what it really is, a distraction from being. I recommend this book to anyone who has felt down or out of sorts. It really puts things into perspective in a mindful way. "

" I have read quite a few books like this, but this is the best of them, and the only one I finished because I wanted to rather than because it felt like I "should." I downloaded the practices and I am still doing this, which for me, is a miracle... "

" Terrific book. This is one of the best introductions to Mindfulness that I have read. It is straight-forward and easy to process, with a practical 8 week step-by-step guide. "

" Een boek, niet alleen voor mensen met depressie/ neerslachtige stemming zoals de titel suggereert, die iedereen eens zou moeten lezen om op een andere, vriendelijkere/ zachtere manier in het leven te staan, zeker in deze jachtige tijden waarin veel mensen druk en stress ervaren. "

" Probably dead-on in a lot of respects, but I found the tone a bit too new agey for me & a tad condescending. That being said--it could have been my mood, which is why I gave 3 stars. "

" I agree with the other reviewers on this one; pretty darn repetitive. It could have been 90 pages easily. However, the excercises and ideas are helpful; just no need to wade through the extra sludge surrounding them. "
