I'm not always the hero. Sometimes I'm merciless.
My whole life I've been the good guy—loyal friend, helpful son, dedicated firefighter—but in the bedroom I'm someone else. That's where my inner villain likes to come out and play.
With a kink as taboo as mine, it's too risky to play with anyone who doesn't crave it like I do, so I've gotten used to depriving that side of me. Then I see her. She's the most beautiful creature I've ever seen and my darker half recognizes itself in her mysterious brown eyes. She's everything I could ever want and thought I would never find.
Our arrangement may seem twisted to everyone else, but the sex is explosive—and soon my soul demands to own every part of her. We come from different worlds that want to tear us apart at every turn, but I'll be damned if I let them.
I will fight for our future, and I will be . . . merciless.

"More law and order than cowboy; this tale is about a man who's an FBI agent and his paralegal who doesn't involve her private life in her work life. But the two become emmeshed as there are always threats against the FBI guy (for payback) but not they include harming his paralegal and her son."

" Not as good as some of her other stuff. "
— Kim, 2/8/2014" DP writes interesting stories about strong, honorable men and women in hard circumstances. Jocelyn works for a federal agent, Jon Blackfoot. She accompanies her boss to a soiree at the last moment one fateful night. Jon is drugged at the party by a mischievous aristocrat. He acts on hidden feelings for Jocelyn, she doesn't realize he is under the influence until the deed is done, where upon she rushes Jon to the hospital. She becomes pregnant, decides to quit her job. Jon who doesn't remember what happened that night encourages her to keep her job. Now five years later Jocelyn and her son are threatened by killers who are also after her boss. To save her life Jon spirits her away to his ranch where he realizes how much he loves her and a romance progresses. It is a highly implausible story but a fun quick read. "
— Mindy, 2/4/2014" action packed, never boring A+ "

— Di, 12/27/2013" Good book. But near beginning there was a give away as to who dunit. "
— Dawn, 12/20/2013" Liked the book, but wish Diana Palmer would have spent more time having the main characters work on some of their issues (especially past issues). "
— Hms, 12/8/2013" It was good but I was a bit disappointed. Not as good as hers usually are. This was more crime story and not a lot of Romance.. Hard to keep up with the crime stuff "
— Valerie, 10/30/2013" This was a very predictable story. The language seemed odd. The banter between characters seemed more developed than some of the story. The whole thing had an awkward feel to it. "
— Diane, 9/25/2013" Considering how much I enjoyed Dangerous, I was disappointed with Merciless and how sappy and predictable it was. It took me forever to finish reading it because I had already figured out the surprise ending. "
— Mei, 7/30/2013" Lame, outdated (even though it was written in 2011) and preachy. The characters are one dimensional, the relationship that all of a sudden came about was so sudden and unbelievable. The whole video game aspect was ridiculous and out of place. "
— Olivia, 6/22/2013" What can I say - I just like her books! "
— Shelly, 4/10/2013" All of the characters really blend together for me, and the plot lines, after reading so many of her books but I still enjoy reading them. "
— Jodi, 3/18/2013" Very good book. Diana is an excellent writer and I always enjoy her stories. "
— Trish, 1/21/2012" DNF: After 25 minutes of listening, I couldn't go on. The combination of drag-queen women's voices and inane plotline made me too anxious and I shouldn't have to take valium to finish an audiobook - I am just not that dedicated. "
— Melinda, 11/28/2011" WTHeck??? He's on the phone while his mother is shot and it was just a setup? Hell no!! Foul! Foul! There are other ways to stage a murder that do not involve her son/stepson whatever being on the phone while she is shot! Just MHO. "
— Alexis-Morgan, 10/20/2011" It was good but I was a bit disappointed. Not as good as hers usually are. This was more crime story and not a lot of Romance.. Hard to keep up with the crime stuff "
